i recently took my 89 camry in to the repair shop for a hesitating and stalling problem, the mechanic check the car out and said that it needed a fuel pump. Is 450.00 reasonable for replacing the fuel pump ?

If you can disconnect a battery and remove the rear seat cushion it's a lot cheaper to do it yourself.

I just looked at the Chilton repair book and naturally it doesn't say you can do it like that. It only gives directions for removal of the fuel tank etc. It would be very convenient if they had a rubber plug under the back seat or truck area for such a job. Is this what you are saying the way it is csaxon????? I would really like to know because I have an '87 camry. Thanks

All you really have to do is be able to release the retainer clips from the back seat. (Bottom Section) and be able to disconnect the battery. You will see underneath the seat there is a service hole cover which can be removed, and the fuel pump is accessible from there... much cheaper to do it yourself, the dealer will screw you over, and so will some repair shops. Only for half of that you can get another pump from an auto part store.

Thankyou greatly for this information. Like I said, I have an 87 and am hoping this will work for me as well. It only makes sense to be able to do this job as such and I even thought that if there was not a service hole on my car, I would make one just for this purpose. So, when fuel pump replacement time comes for me, I know what to do. thanks again you guys!!!

Glad to hear that it went so well for you, hopefully you won't have any other problems with your Camry for a long time.
