From under the car on the transaxle find where the shift cable connects-there is also an electrical connecter attached. This is the switch.

Joe,

Is it just a matter of simply replacing the switch or is there a big hairy dog procedure I would have to go through to change it? My reverse lights on my 92 Camry don't work also and it's either the neutral safety switch or the wiring at the trunk hinge shorting out on something. Thanks for your help.

The switch is not hard to remove and it can be tested. The test is for continuity and it differs between a 4 or 6 cylinder.Let me know if I can be of more assistance.

Joe,

I have a 1992 4-cyl. Camry but I don't have any meters or gauges to do such testing. Is it expensive to test? Cost of just the switch itself? Thank you.

You do need a meter to test it,and I'm not sure of the price of the switch, but if you took the switch to the dealer it shouldn't be to expensive to test as it's a pretty simple procedure.Have you checked the trunk wires?

Joe,
Yes I have but I'm going to check them again. I didn't get into the conduit but I think I had better. Thanks for all your help.
