Hey guys, I am in search of a car suitable to being a rally car. However I have some strict guide lines...give me a list of 3 cars with the following restrictions.

-Under $5000

-No turbos or super chargers because of insurance prices

-Able to buy in the USA with out importing it from Japan or Europe

Links would also be helpful too. thanx

Wow, you really know how to make your choices very limited.
For that kind of money you're not going to get much, considering you still have to add things like a roll cage before you'll be able to use it in a stage.

Maybe a older Honda Civic or if you want something awd look at a pre-'97 Subaru Impreza.

You're not going to get a car that's already prepared for rally at that price either.

Which would leave an early Subaru Impreza since they are AWD with......no turbo.

You should definitely be able to pick up a pre-1997 Impreza L for under $5000, you just need to spend some time looking.

I would Suggest a Saab Sonett 3. You can get one for $1,000 add a 4wd mod and it'l be under $5,000.

why are you insuring your rally car? is it going to be a daily driver also? i'm pretty confident saying you won't be driving your rally car to work after you flip it and hit a tree. :) i can tell you from experience.

buuuuut, top 3 choice IMO are:

impreza L awd
old celica-supra
old honda crx

The reason why I want the car for $5000 is because my parents are buying me the car.

Also the insurance prices will be high for a turbo or super charger and my parents will be under the impression that I will be racing with it.

I want to do a engine swap possibly and a turbo later once I am out of high school because my parents won't care if I race.

Finally what year was the Celica with AWD because I was thinking about that but it had a turbo with it.

1993 was the last yeat the GT-four was available in the USA, after that year you could only get a fwd GT as the top of the range.

*shakes head* you have much to learn.

explain to me what type of racing your parents think you will be doing?
and how freaking hard on a car you have to be while rallying. 5k alone can be spent in just OEM replacement parts for a full 2 or 3 day weekend.

but that's neither here nor there. good luck with what you get

I somehow don't think you'll be able to keep rallying a secret from your parents ...
