Would it be possible to change the offset of a rim. I would like to go from a 38 to a 42 offset. Is this possible without distroying the rim?

if you had an upgraded big brake kit you could use wheel spacers to prevent the caliper from hitting the wheel but to your question i'm pretty sure you cant

the only way to increase offset would be to shave down the center hub of the wheel.

I know what to do, but would the rim still be strong enough after I take a few mm off on the inside?

yes... but like the other guy said, it then depends on brake caliper clearance

What kind of rim are we talking about?
I would never do it to a cast wheel, that would be risky, not to mention, even done on a lathe, you better believe you would have balancing issues, withe the rim once mounted on the hub.

I need to increase the offset on my rims too. Can you please post more information on this process and places around Los Angeles that do this. Thanks

I wouldn't recommend shaving the inside of the rim. THe rims are made a specific hub depth to keep the integrity of the wheel intact. Taking away material will weaken the wheel. Just buy a newer wheel OR sell your wheels and use the money for new ones.

I agree as well, and I would also like to question the need for a change in wheel offset? Esp. in the form of narrowing the track?

Maybe the tire and wheel are rubbing.
