I have an automatic 91 Honda Accord DX. For several months, the S light on my instrument panel comes on and goes off occasionally. Most of the time it comes on steadly, only occasionally it flashes. Sometimes it comes on as I start the engine and keeps on. Most of the time it comes on during driving. When it comes on, this does not last long, not more than 10 minute, then it goes off automatically. When it comes on during driving, I can feel the car "shift forward", like to be pushed forward. Except this, everything seems to work fine. This happens only occasionally, not every time when I drive. Is this the problem of VSS or the transmission computer, or the gear? Please help me. I appreciate any response.

Check the code of the lights. the flashing of S light tells you the error code of the transmission.

On my 91 Accord, the speedo bounced up and down, then went to 0 and stayed there. S light would blink. It would lose power while this was happening. After up to a minute, the check engine light would come on and then the car would run fine, while the S continued to flash. The problem was the Variable Speed Sensor on the automatic trans. Common problem.

hello, I wish could get the code as easy as engine check light codes.

Here is what I found from my "S" after I short circuit the blue connector under dash board.

one long blink......2 short blinks........one long blink.......2short blinks and so on...
Do you know what does the flashes means to me?? I am guessing there should multiple codes which I could think of code 1 and code 2(based on my assumption).

Let me know if you know the blink means so that I could directly narrow down my problem. Thanks~

Just replace the speed sensor, it will fix the problem. I had the smae prob as NewOrleansGuy, ans after a trip to the Honda dealership it was FIXED!
