Let's see. I had a Pontiac Sunbird a number of years back with a V6. I put on 193,000 then traded it in and got $2000.00 for it. I have a friend who had a Chevy Astro van that he put 260,000 miles on it.(He claims) He is a great mechanic so I tend to believe him on it.
01-14-2004, 04:12 PM
Well, I had 173,000 on the Toyota when I sold it, and I have 123,000 on my Renault. One of my friend's girlfriend has a Honda with very nearly 300,000 on it (but I can't remember the exact mileage at this point)
03-06-2004, 08:17 PM
ive seen people put 300,000 miles on their vehicles before they had to replace any major things...
of course they maintain their vehicles themselves on an every-other-weekly basis (i do the same, which is why my 90' 525i runs as good as new)
03-28-2004, 07:40 PM
I bought a '73 Chevy Nova with 219500 on it and put another 78000 on it before I traded it.
My '88 Pontiac LeMans (Opel Kadett) has 240000 or so on it.
My '93 Ponty Sunbird SE has 195000 +/- on it.
04-21-2004, 08:48 PM
my friends ford ranger has almost 300,000 miles on it...don't exactly know how many of those miles HE put on it. but yeah.
04-21-2004, 10:24 PM
my old car (1987 oldsmobile calais) had 180,000 miles on it before i bought my 300zx.
04-22-2004, 04:19 PM
theres a kid at school with a 300zx with 280,000 miles, his is "riced" out and it sounds like it wants to die at idle.
04-22-2004, 07:38 PM
thats nothing, my friend use to own a camry and sold it when it had around 250k miles like 2 years ago and the guy he sold it to gave it to his sister when he put around 120k I and I met up with her a while back and shes still using it up to this date, must have over....... well you do the math, she hasnt replaced any parts YET as I know of.
04-24-2004, 01:13 AM
There was a Taxi in Germany, which the driver told me he had put 810,000 km's on it, the car was a 1980's E class and it certainly seemed credible, as Merc motors are konwn to go on forever.
04-25-2004, 12:17 PM
my mom's kia sportage has 134,000 miles on it.
talk about amazing especially from kia...although the engine sounds like it wants to die though...
04-25-2004, 11:03 PM
My wrangler has about 200,000 on it. My dad's got a truck with around 400,000 and the only major thing repaired was we rebuilt the head twice.
04-26-2004, 08:06 AM
My sister put 116,000 miles on her ford contour.
04-26-2004, 05:33 PM

05-04-2004, 02:06 PM
a friend of mine has a dodge v6 diesel work truck that has been almost all over america. The odometer broke at 500,000 about 5 years ago and he says he has put at least a few hundred thousand more since.

05-05-2004, 01:22 PM
I had a 1984 Dodge Daytona with 163,000 miles before I sold it. My brother owned it before me and beat the shit out of it and didn't take care of it. The people that bought still drive it. After that I owned a 1985 Jeep Wagoneer that lasted 188,000 before the 2.8L Chevy V6 developed some rod knock and I sold it to a junkyard for $50. They dropped in a 4.0L I6 and sold it for $4,500, go figure. My next car, a Chrysler LeBaron GTC had 152,000 on the clock before being totaled in a car accident. I know it could have gone a hell of a lot longer than that.
I know if a guy that has put over 1,000,000 miles on his Dodge Ram with a Cummins and all he has had to replace is a water pump. It is all about how you take care of them. Most any car will last a long time if you just take care of it.
05-06-2004, 03:06 AM
My brother has over 500k on his Volks jetta diesel. I had a '83 Caprice that saw the 0's all over again before I crushed it. My mother's '89 Caprice has well over 350k. And my '91 Caprice has 279k right now and is still running strong.
05-13-2004, 06:33 PM
I have a '81 VW Rabbit Diesel with 306,043 miles as of today. Only thing done was a front motor mount, water pump, engine seale, and other general maintenance things, nothing major. I do all the work myself. Have a '88 volvo 740 gle 212000 miles, This car has an excellant drivetrain (b230f engine) however, If you are going to own a volvo your second car needs to be a wrecker, the hall sensor in the distrubutors are terrible and hard to troubleshoot unless completly failed, the body trim and interior trim just falls away with a little age. The fuel pumps and relays are awful, the disc brakes are really bad....ect...ect...ect.
05-17-2004, 05:07 PM
My girlfriends 1990 Honda Crx Has 298,784 miles on it and it is still running strong. Never Rebuilt.

07-10-2004, 10:18 PM
my bro had a 1993 saturn sl2 or sumthin, he boutght it wit idk how many miles on it but drove it for 2 years and beat the crap outa it, 5spd, never replaced anything except motormounts, atleast once a week he would wind that lil motor up so much itd reach the fuel cut out an the engine would shut down. he got rid of it wit 249,000miles on it. he beat the crap outa that thing, he bought it for $500 from people he knew then sold it for $1000 and my rents got him a 1998 jetta gt, also which he beat the crap outa but that was alotta fun, then he traded that in on his new sable whiich is his first automatic and idk how long the tranny whill last
07-16-2004, 04:17 PM
I read in a Motor Trend once about a '94 Accord that was used as a courier car. 130K a year, he replaced the water pump and timing belt once a year as "regular maintenance" and put a clutch in it once in it's life. When it sold it had 1 million and 75 thousand miles or something like that and still ran great. Original exhaust, muffler and all. There was also an OLD Volvo diesel that had just turned over 2 million, it was from 1965 or roundabouts, though...
07-16-2004, 06:11 PM

07-16-2004, 11:33 PM
^^^^ "I see" said the blind man to his deaf wife as he took out his hammer and saw....
.... And as he sawed his wife exclaimed "I can hear, can't you see?!"
07-18-2004, 12:02 AM
You all make my sisters car seem damn new after these numbers lol.
07-19-2004, 07:18 AM
It didn't say how much it sold for, it was just a little filler story in one of the first pages. But that was from a magazine probably 8 or 9 months ago. I'm sure I could dig it out, I never get rid of those things, but that may take me a while...
10-25-2004, 12:00 PM
a friend of mine has a 90 honda accord. to date 360000 miles and no problems.
10-25-2004, 04:07 PM
I've got a 90 Dodge Spirit work car and it has 204000 miles and the only things I've had to change is fuel pressure regulator and egr valve. It sounds like it will die from time to time.
10-28-2004, 08:59 PM
my buddy had a 94 SE maxima last him 300K+ before the timing chain snapped, which destroyed all of his valves.
11-01-2004, 12:19 AM
A friend of my moms put about 300,000 miles on his Ford Aerostar thing, he got next to nothing for it. He puts probably a good 50,000 to 60,000 miles on a car every year.
11-03-2004, 11:17 AM
Try a 78 Honda civic CVCC (anyone actually know what CVCC stood for, if so 10 bragging right points) with 800,000 miles. Of course the engine was rebulit at 400,000.

120,000 miles on his 2005 2500 and he had 2 other cars when he bought it...

10-13-2009, 02:26 PM

I had an 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee for about 8 years, until I lost it earlier this year, around Jan-Feb 2009. An old dinosaur did a right on red without stopping, drove into the side of it and took it out. I had an extended warranty that ended at the end of 2008. Overall, it was a good vehicle. The major issues over the years were transmission solenoids, the condenser and the brake lines rusted out seizing the brakes. Just about everything but the brake lines were covered.
I'd say I put about 250K miles on it or more.
Make 'em Last

We bought a '80 Malibu (229 cu.in. aka 3.8 L) in '82 with 20K. Checked the oil level the day after sale, and it was jet black - brand new oil change sticker on the air cleaner. Ended up having 349K on it before blowing out the real tranny seal. Never needed any engine work.
11-05-2009, 10:49 PM
I've got 138,000 miles on my 1999 dodge avenger that I bought in feb. of 2007 with 102000 miles. Transmission was replaced at 110k miles. Original engine, changed timing belt, water pump and wheel bearings within the past year. It drives like it's new, no starting issues, so it's ready to go over 200k with no further fixes :)
11-19-2009, 10:54 PM
The world record is about 2,500,000 miles with a VW golf. Of course, he changes the engine and the trans about 12 times  And many other parts also.
The Good Doctor
