I got a 93 LE with the 2.2L, the other day when I went to start my car up it ran real rough and when I pressed the gas it would bog down and almost stall out. after changing the spark plugs the car still ran really rough, and when I tried to start it agin it wouldn't fire. for some reason the spark isn't strong enough to ignite under compression, if anyone has any ideas to what could be wrong with the ignition system it would be a huge help

P.S. we checked the distributor cap and router, both of which worked.

check ur wires and see if anything's lose
could be faulty connection\grounds

We looked and it didn't look like any of the wires were damaged or grounging out, right now I'm leaning towards replacing the coil, but thats only a guess, the othere idea was see if the spark plug wires were bad but I think that is less likely

Most definitely replace the ignition coil pack...that is bound to be your problem.

well unfortunatelly I did replace the ignition coil but, there was no change. I don't know if this is related or not, but it's been extremely cold here in Connecticut the last week. I'm all out of ideas, so any suggestions would be a help, thanks.

Okay, well if you replaced the coil pack, the plugs and wires, and checked everything else, I'm pretty much stumped on that one.

Well acutally I think it's the ignitor. I'm pretty sure that the ignitor has to do with controlling the primary and secondary spark, and it would make sense if there was something wrong with that, which is why I'm only getting a secondary spark, or even weaker than a secondary spark

Well, I was talked to a friend of mine on the phone this morning just before I got on here, and he and I were talking about it, and I was telling him how stumped most of us were on here, and he said the exact same thing, he said there's about a 70% chance that it's the ignitor.

A spark is a spark. If all your plugs indicate a spark then the problem is more than likely in the fuel delivery system. You mentioned cold temperature, perhaps you got some bad water contaminated gas and yes the symptoms you described could indicate that.

You should probably check the sending unit when you get the chance, and you most definitely change the filter. This will help.

thats originally what we thought the problem was, so I put some dry gas in when the car was running rough. That didn't help at all, and the fact that when I take the sparkplugs out after turning the engine over they smell like gas, tells me that all 4 are getting gas. Unfortunately I'm all out of time and ideas, seeing as though I have to go back to school on sunday, I'm gonna call around and try to find a garage that will look at it asap.

Dry gas is a preventative, not a cure. If you have a water contaminated tank of gas the best cure is to drain it and put in fresh fuel. Good luck.

Igot the same year ,make ,model, and problem.Replaced distributor thinking it may be pick up coils,no luck.replaced ignitor, wires, coil, cap, rotor noluck.still no spark.Afriend has Mitchell on Demand tried everything still no luck.Only thing left is the ECM.All parts are within specs. Not getting any IGT signal from ECM to fire ignitor.Any ideas before I spend some more cash, please.

Is there a way to test the ECM to verify if it is good or bad before I replace it.

Unless the ECM is totally fried (unlikely due to spark and fuel delivery) there should be some kind of trouble code in the computer.Have you tried to retrieve the codes?

originally had a code 12 but that cleared after I replaced distributor.now it just cranks ,no spark,no igt signal from ecm to ignitor.good o/p at pick-up coils.

Rider 7005 mentioned there was some spark,so I'm leaning to fuel delivery.Maybe take the air cleaner out and spray some ether in it.

Masher-Autozone might be able to test the ECM but I'm not sure.It might very well be the problem.Let us know.

well i'm done .the ecm from ebay was for CA. ,so didn't work on my car.$$ wasted there.went to scrap yard got another ecm($$) worked fine for about 3 starts then starter moter failed.just got done installing new starter($$).finally working good but very slow to pick up power from stopped position.will check the timing and put in a new set of plugs.
