Custom Integra Speaker Box with Pics

Hey Guys, I am in the process of building a custom speaker box for my integra that goes in place of the removable rear shelf. It only cost me about $15 bucks to build and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. Like I said I'm still not done finishing it since I was kinda stopped cold in my tracks (no pun intended) by an snowy wisconsin winter. But anyhow I used 1/4 inch plywood, some scrap 1x4's, plenty of PL200 construction adheisive, and some auto carpet I picked up at Menards. The Rod you see that allows the box to swing up and down on the stock clips is a 1/4" fiberglass electric fence post. It wasn't to hard to build, I'm a pretty experienced woodworker, but it was just a couple of angles and finding the radius of the back of the hatch. I think just about anybody should be able to do it. It took me about 6-8 hrs to finish totally. Tell me what you think.

Looking through the back window, sorry its kinda hard to see. When you close the hatch, the box lines up perfectly all the way around by the base of the window.

Another View though the the window, notice those white spots... thats road salt spray... winter sucks.

I was able to take this one outside before it started madly snowing.

Underside View, haven't decided yet how I am going to finish this side off.

As you can see I need to a: get rid of the getto speaker wiring, b: clean my trunk, c: change my oil

Side View... Check out all of those angles.

Here you can see how the box swings up on the fiberglass fence post. now thats a DIY redneck job!!

Here is another one showing how i finished up the sides. sorry for the weird coloring, thats what happens when you take a photo in a snowstorm with the wrong camera settings.

I don't know about the thing swinging up, but it looks pretty nice, you should start making custom boxes and selling them. You would make good money, as long as you figure out that "an" doesn't work with snowy. But that is just one of my friend's who has turned me into a person always looking for english mistakes.

lol leave it to me to mess up on my english. thanks for the reply. yeah I made it so it would swing up like the stock one does. If it doesn't swing up, its a pain in the butt to get anything bulky in the trunk. Also, if the back seats are down, there's no way to hold the box in if it doesn't have that rod. So it has to be in there. And yeah, I've thought about making custom boxes.

My next plans are to build a custom sub box that wraps around the rear of the trunk, I plan to have two subs sitting at 50 degree angles in the corners with the amp and caps and whatever else mounted on the center face of the box.

Well if you want to make me a custom sealed box for a 15" for me, I would pay you the cost of parts and shipping... just so I can have something to listen to while I am waiting for my custom ported box lol.

nice jake. hhmm did the gsr had stock rear speakers b4? i got a 92 teg ls and my rear speakers were basically part of the trunk panel and right behind the passengers. i'd be really surprise if the gsr didn't have rear speakers or is thsi your civic?

Yah its my teg, my civic is a coupe. The stock GSR rear speakers are mounted in the sides of the car down by the "arm rests" for the back seat. They're round 6 1/2", so I was looking for alittle better sound with the 6x9's. So now I have a 8 speaker system (6 speakers, 2 tweeders).

And yes... I am powering 8 speakers with my deck, but it handles it nicely without any distortion till it loud enough to hurt. But yah I built this because I didn't want to hack up the stock shelf that came in the car, I suppose I could have, but this way I can swap back and forth.
