my timing belt snapped a few months ago do to a water leak and i figured that i will need a new engine and i am saving up for a new engine now but while i am waiting for more money i figured , what the hell i will try to change the timing belt my self and hope that the engine is ok . if not , no harm anyways since i getting a new engine.

but anyways , i have the haynes book and i got to the part of taking the bolt off of the crankshaft by my passanger side wheel well but i need to know if the bolt is reverse thread or regular. should i loosen the bolt toward the rear or the front of the car?

The crankshaft bolt has regular threads. To loosen, turn counter-clockwise. If the car is a 5-speed, put it in 5th gear and have someone hold down the brake, its easier to break the bolt loose that way. Also, I wouldn't use the pulley installing tool, I have heard of way too many horror stories about it stripping out the crankshaft. I just used a bolt the same size as the crankshaft bolt but lots longer ($2 at Ace) with a handful of washers. You can also use one of the motor mount bolts for this as well. I just replaced the timing belt on my 95, and I had to take it apart several times for one reason or another, so if you have any other questions feel free to pm or email me. Also check out neons.org for info and the 95 dohc engine. I know for a fact that there are several for sale.
