timing belt changing question

my timing belt snapped a few months ago do to a water leak and i figured that i will need a new engine and i am saving up for a new engine now but while i am waiting for more money i figured , what the hell i will try to change the timing belt my self and hope that the engine is ok . if not , no harm anyways since i getting a new engine.


but anyways , i have the haynes book and i got to the part of taking the bolt off of the crankshaft by my passanger side wheel well but i need to know if the bolt is reverse thread or regular. should i loosen the bolt toward the rear or the front of the car?

also if anyone knows where to get a 95 dohc neon engine please let me know.

The crankshaft bolt has regular threads. To loosen, turn counter-clockwise. If the car is a 5-speed, put it in 5th gear and have someone hold down the brake, its easier to break the bolt loose that way. Also, I wouldn't use the pulley installing tool, I have heard of way too many horror stories about it stripping out the crankshaft. I just used a bolt the same size as the crankshaft bolt but lots longer ($2 at Ace) with a handful of washers. You can also use one of the motor mount bolts for this as well. I just replaced the timing belt on my 95, and I had to take it apart several times for one reason or another, so if you have any other questions feel free to pm or email me.
