Got my latest kit in the mail the other day, and i finally got into the package, it's a 1/24 Hasegawa AE101 Corolla Levin

I only wish i knew more on the car, I considered a 3S-GTE front wheel drive conversion for the engine, but as of yet, i haven't found any proof that it could be possible.

Looks like it will be an interesting build, but i really haven't set a straight plan for it at the moment :)

Any input?

Nice but rims look a bit too big for the car.

Yeah, the rims look a little too big on the car. I didn't know that Levin's came in that body style. Keep us posted on how the build progresses.

The link below has some pics of 3s-gte in a ae102 and a ae111, the cant see why you couldnt do it in a ae101.

3S-GTE Conversion (http://www.fensport.co.uk/fensportcars.htm)

Im just about to start Tamiya Celica 2000GT-R with a 3s-gte FWD conversion, the only realy inaccurate part will be the gearbox as it has the AWD transfer case on it but im not really game enough to modify it at the moment

wheels are too big. How about some 18'', or 17'' rims. Ya know, it's a good thing I didn't buy this at my LHS today, I'd brought it back, can't stand FWD.

I say 'YES' to the 3S-GTE motor :D BTW, I figured out that my Camry has a "3S-FE" motor...

Malcom, you got a camry??? Man, you need an 8-6. Even, the 1.6 sohc under powered SR5 and EX can pull a damn fine drift in the local wal-mart parking lot. Just watch out for the security guys on their 18 speed moutnain bikes!

Those aren't the wheels from the kit, those are from the Nismo wheels from the VSpec II, i'm going to use the wheels that came with the Corolla, but they were misplaced when I was taking the picture.

I would say sticks with the blacktop 4AGE, but with individual throttle bodies ;)

I can't think of any kits with the 4AG, if there is one out there. Plus, this model is based on the 92-93 JTCC model, so i can't specify what engine the real thing contained

yeah....Toyota white......wonder how that'd look on my SR5? Well, anyway, this is a levin, so I've gotta take a liking.

Here's a tiny update, nothing major, i've opened up the front grille, i'll most likely add some mesh, that is, if i can find any

screw the mesh, stick in an intercooler!

digitalbanzai
01-12-2004, 10:59 PM
it'd take more cutting than just the grille for an intercooler :-p

Did you mean the grille below the hood? If so sorry, thought you meant the vent like thing in the bumper. That is if they have one? Never built this car but it's comin along cool.

digitalbanzai
01-13-2004, 09:42 PM
Yeah, it has that aswell, it's not yet attached though, it's a separate piece.
I was referring to the front grille, between the headlights :)

ooo, my bad dude. in that case, yea mesh it. but dude, the car needs a turbo, desperately, like mine.

It's overall not a bad idea, yet i don't have pieces like that to work with.

Thing is, something seriously needs to be done about these tiny things

you can scratch build an intercooler, this car is curbside correct? Just make one from .030 thick styrene plain card, and .030 thich styrene v-groove card. I've made a few, quite easy to make. Evergreen makes the best styrene imo, and is cheaper than tamiya.

I've found quite a few inspiration pictures of the AE101@ae101.net, apparently this is the site of a massive AE101 club from Hong Kong.
