Can anyone give me info on what I need to consider if I'm planning to replace the fuel pump in a 99 cherokee? The jeep stalls when the fuel level is below 1/8 of a tank. If I keep the tank above the 1/4 level I never have a stall problem. A jeep friend of mine told me it's the fuel pump so I'd like to replace it.

Any 'how-to' URLs or detailed information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Chris

well man make sure it is your fuel pump before you change it. you can do a fuel presser test to see if you pump is working properly to the spects of your motor size. as for it stalling out below 1/8 you fuel sending unit could be giving you a wrong reading or you fuel gage is not working properly. it would be cheaper to check these thingss out before you go and change your pump.

I have been told by several mechanics to never allow the fuel tank to go below 1/4 tank in fuel injected vehicles. Recently, another mechanic told me that you shouldn't let it go below 1/2! If you are letting the fuel go below 1/8 tank, the fuel may be sloshing around and away from the fuel pump causing fuel starvation to the injection system. This also causes the fuel pump to run without fuel running through it and may actually cause the fuel pump to fail eventually.

Just some food for thought. All advice is free and it can be picked up or tossed out.
