Sad.....igor@af 11-27-2000, 05:57 PM It's so sad that McLaren F1's production was stopped after only around 100 were produced... Anybody know what McLaren is up to? Any new cars in their mind? Racer 20 11-27-2000, 08:33 PM I know someone who works for the racing team. But he doesn't want to tell me anything so my guess is as good as yours. igor@af 11-27-2000, 09:02 PM where do you live? enzo@af 11-28-2000, 02:34 AM McLaren doesn't have any plans to start any more production. However, they are building the Mercedes SLR, or so I've heard. Yes, only 100 F1's were produced, although more in other trims (GT, LM,...) were made. Only 98 of those 100 remain. Wonderful, wonderful car. However, their claim as the fastest production car has recently been challenged by a swedish manufacturer, Koenigsegg. Their CC claims a top speed around 241 mph, and a 0-60 of 3.1, one tenth of a second less than the McLaren. ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. enzo@af 11-28-2000, 02:29 PM I believe there were 8 or 9 F1's bought into the US...in fact, a guy in Texas has two! igor@af 11-28-2000, 06:49 PM I don't like millionaires, unless they give me some of their money, that is. ;) Edited by: igor@af Racer 20 11-29-2000, 02:07 AM I live in California but the person I told you about live somewhere in England. enzo@af 11-30-2000, 02:32 AM http://www.mclarencars.com/V1/images/gallery/gall4big.jpg Silver: Regular F1 Orange: LM model. From what I hear it beats the McLaren F1 in all areas except for top speed. And it looks like it on spec sheets too. Dimex 12-09-2000, 01:40 PM You heard right (somewhat), Racer 20. McLaren F1 http://209.132.49.149/images-large/1997_mclaren_f1-1.jpg Top Speed 240.0 mph 0 - 30 mph 1.7 seconds 0 - 60 mph 3.4 seconds 0 - 100 mph 7.7 seconds 0 - ¼ mile 11.6 seconds Mercedes CLK-GTR http://209.132.49.149/images-large/1998_mercedes_benz_clkgtr-1.jpg Top Speed 191.0 mph 0 - 30 mph 1.7 seconds 0 - 60 mph 3.4 seconds 0 - 100 mph 5.7 seconds 0 - ¼ mile 9.4 seconds The differences here come basically from how they are geared. The McLaren is simply geared for higher speeds as opposed to better mid-range acceleration. The CLK-GTR's sixth isn't overdrive, whereas the F1's is. ---------- 1 Corinthians 7:14 Edited by: Dimex JD@af 12-10-2000, 08:05 PM That is too bad. I was unaware that the McLaren was no longer being produced. I've never even heard of that Swedish manufacturer, Koenigsegg, or their CC with those outlandish performance numbers. Any body got any pictures or other information they'd like to share? Edited by: andrew@af nospower2001 12-14-2000, 10:44 AM i read on some website on the mclaren f1 that some royalty diplomat in the middle east has 5 of them. if i can find the site, ill post it. enzo@af 12-14-2000, 08:10 PM I'm not sure if he has 5, I thought it was three. It's the Sultan of Brunei. Oh, yeah, he's got a Ferrari 456 convertible, 456 wagon, 456 4-door, a Ferrari FX and a ton of other really sweet cars. ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. carman 12-15-2000, 06:10 AM Yeah, i remember there was an article about him in C&D around a year ago. That lucky bastard, he's a BILLIONAIRE for just being "Born", without any hard work. He has dozens of exotic cars, and his son has his own garrage, where all the exotics are the same dumb color.... nospower2001 12-15-2000, 07:47 AM must be nice to be born into that kinda money.....lol, now the guy needs to get one of those saleen s7's. if he doesent already have one enzo@af 12-15-2000, 08:59 AM I don't think Dozens quite sums it up...it's more like hundred's of cars. If he gets an S7, he'll probably get one..one in a different color...an S7R...then get a Mosler MT900, just to compare the two new US supercars. I LOVE IT! In many ways it's even better than the F1 from McLaren. But I'd still rather be seated centerly at 200 mph instead of to the left or right. That's what I always liked about the F1. enzo@af 12-19-2000, 01:10 PM McLaren's F1 was about more than speed. It was..and is...an engineering masterpiece. Everything about this car screams performance: the central seating, the roof scoop, the gold lining in the engine bay. I don't know that Koenigsegg has accomplished the same level of brilliance that McLaren has. It's easy enough to build fast cars, but that's not all that goes into making them supercars. ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. carman 12-19-2000, 01:12 PM McLaren F1 is the Ultimate....... all others want to be like it, but can't reach the perfection. Dimex 12-19-2000, 07:33 PM I think the Koenigsegg leaves something to be desired. The styling is wonderful, but it just seems not right. For one, the rear rotors seem tiny! Yeah, the car isn't very heavy so 13" rotors aren't necessary, but come on! They're not even cross drilled or slotted! Secondly, I think those rims are just putrid. I'd say something like a 5-spoke or just spoke rims. ---------- 1 Corinthians 7:14 Jack Handey 12-19-2000, 07:35 PM You know what I was thinking? If you're ever falling off of the empire state building you should pretend like you're really limp. Someone on the ground might mistake you for a dummy and try and catch you. 'Cuz hey, free dummy! ---------- Floss: It just makes sense. andrew 12-23-2000, 09:53 PM thank you for noticing my post anamoly were I mistakenly did not finish typing the word "Koenigsegg", let me rephrase: Yes, thak you Jack for pointig out my flagrant mistake, I should be buried in the snow and be left to die! I meant to say Koenig AND Koenigsegg are a legitimate company. A major automotive magazine recently did a writeup on a Koenigsegg vehicle (I believe it was European Car, I cannot remember exactly, I receive six different subscriptions a month from different mags) Yes, Ford is also, thank you for pointing that out to my feeble unkowing mind, also. Feel free to pick apart any and all of my posts, I enjoy correcting my mistakes, it only makes me smarter:) igor@af 12-23-2000, 10:10 PM :D BlaxicanYIIK 12-28-2000, 04:21 AM Hey guys (and gals)..speaking of that Sultan of Brunei guy....I have that article. Did any of you read the part of how he resolved the issue of not enough space in his PALACE for his 100+ cars (many of them 1 of a kind, including a 3 million $ Ferrari!!). He pushed them in the dam OCEAN! Seeing that really pissed me off. What waste, and I bet the country's people are poor as dirt. And yes...he does have a CLK GTR (ony left hand drive in existence I hear (or is it right)). Anyways, I'm off topic...the McLaren F1 LM is one of the most beautiful cars (THINGS) ever made! However, I read an article a while back that said it hit 60 in Under 3 seconds and got to 100 in 5?? Who the hell was drivng it then? lol As far as top speed it is no longer the fastest, that goes to either the Corvette Sledghammer or the TVR Speed 12 . Not sure which, I'll get back to you. However, I can't think of too many cars as intimidating as the Almighty McLaren F1 LM. Someday..I shall own one...Too bad it's only gonna be on a video game! :( Oh well..you never know!! igor@af 12-28-2000, 10:11 AM Stupid Sultan......... :{ JD@af 12-29-2000, 04:43 AM What is it with the crazy rich folk?!?! Did you know that once when Elvis Presley was bored, he climbed into a bull dozer and destroyed his guest cottage (I mean leveled it so that it was just a pile of rubble), again because he was BORED/to entertain guests?? Maybe having that much money is not such a good idea. :D enzo@af 12-30-2000, 02:24 PM However, the Corvette (Callaway) Sledgehammer was never production, was it? I didn't think the Speed 12 was that fast. Sure, it has 800+ hp but it's a little overweight. Nonetheless, the F1 is simply undescribable. It's pure sex on wheels. ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. Racer 20 01-02-2001, 03:47 AM Enzo: The TVR Speed 12 isn't overweight. Where did you here something like that?!! enzo@af 01-03-2001, 05:05 AM I don't mean overweight as in heavy, I meant it in the sense that with more hp and torque than an F1 it doesn't equal performance. The only curb weight figs I've seen list it less than an F1 (don't remember the exact number), but I distrust that number. I suppose I phrased my original post very poorly. Sorry. ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. Racer 20 01-03-2001, 05:20 PM I understand what your saying know Enzo. Anyway... What about that Ferrari F60? It's supposed to be faster and better. enzo@af 01-05-2001, 01:55 PM The F-50 GT was pretty darn close and the Koenig F-50 made the run to 60 in 3.0 sec! ---------- "Ferrari isn't a car, it's a lifestyle" -Enzo Ferrari. Racer 20 01-08-2001, 02:20 AM Isn't the Koenig also like $800,000 or something? Chris 01-26-2001, 07:07 PM Regarding the Sultan of Brunei: He and his sons bought 2000(!) cars in 2-3 years. The Sultan said it must stop, and all teh cars that weren't sold (I assume he contacted a few companies, but if u wanted to buy, u just paid the money and waited for the car, no test drive). The cars that didn't sell, the SOB dumped into the ocean Anyway, the citizens of Brunei get anything they want (the hire people to tend to their oil wells), so everyone is a millionaire. Yes, it sucks not to be born there. The Ferrari F60 will only just exceed 200mph, due to aerodynamic considerations (high speed stability is a high priority), but it will have awsome acceleration. Long the McLaren F1!! Innotech 02-05-2001, 10:57 AM The Sultan also had about 3 XJR15s and 6 Dauers, not to mention Cizetas, and the only 3 road legal Ferrari Mythos supercars. He also had Bentley Java, and was offered the Ferrari F50 bolide but turned it down....He also reportedly turned down a Vector. Seb928S@af 02-10-2001, 10:39 PM http://www.supercars.net/SDBQ?y=1994&m=Dauer&o=962%20LeMans I would be happy with just that. Psman32@af 02-10-2001, 10:39 PM The f1 does 0-60 in 3.2 and 0-100 in 6.3. There were 76 road cars made and 24 race cars made. My source for this info is Autoweek. While other cars may beat it top speed wise, tech wise there is nothing anywhere near it. It has a modoem communicates with the factory if anything goes wrong in any of the systems to try and fix it. Also, when u slam on the brakes, a fin will pop up on the back of the trunk to double the downforce. This will keep the front from doing a nose dive and keep the stopping power equal to all four wheels. I dont wanna type anything more than that for now cause I'm getting tired. Believe me I know more than this about the F1. Dylan_Michael 02-10-2001, 10:42 PM Wow. Thats a lot of info that I did not know. I once saw a special on this car on the Discovery Channel. I fell in love with it then:). RacingManiac 02-10-2001, 10:48 PM I think the fin is used as an airbrake to add more drag to it to slow it down faster, and help to get the tail planted. There is not much street car can beat it top speed wise, at least not that I know of. IMO it's the ultimate street machine.....not the best race car, but definetely the best street car.... Psman32@af 02-12-2001, 10:22 PM Yeah that is another that happens with the fin but it was designed to increase downforce to keep the nose from moving. Does anyone have any idea how much a muffler cost? Well it costs $17,600!!! It's made out of titanium and is so big that it can be considered a crumple zone. This next one people might know. What material is around teh engine to improve cooling? Well its gold believe it or not. beezer 02-28-2001, 06:22 PM ive also seen a ferrrari f40 gt with gold mufflers! cool but expesive. Porsche 02-28-2001, 06:58 PM Time for some quick facts: The Sultan of Brunei is the richest man in the world through inheiritance. The F1 has 50k worth of Gold Plating as stated before. It is not thick it's gold foil like on the outside of Spacecraft becase it has very good heat deflection properties. One of the F1's that is no longer in existance is Rowan Atkinson's aka Mr. Bean, he crashed it in London a year ago. LakeMountLude 03-28-2001, 10:25 PM i think this car is by far the best car in the world.. forget the clk-gtr with its 1.5 mil price tag ill take a 2.9 sec 0-60 over a 3.4 one with 500 grand less anyday :) not that i will ever even come close to getting one but you know.. umm mclaren actually has a new car coming.. forgot the specs tho.. i know bill gates has a red one.. bastard :) enzo@af 03-29-2001, 05:18 PM McLaren has a new car coming? Are you sure? Where can I hear more about this? I know that McLaren is going to be collaborating with MB for the Vision SLR (I believe McLaren is building the engine for it), but I have always heard that they have no plans for any more production cars. enzo@af 03-29-2001, 05:20 PM I'm not doubting you, or trying to prove you wrong, I would just really like to hear more about this because a new McLaren would be really really exciting for me. Porsche 03-29-2001, 05:40 PM I would be pissed about it unless it was faster and better looking than the new 406km/h Buggatti. Oh ya, it has to be better than the original F1 too. LakeMountLude 03-30-2001, 12:06 AM rich people these days lol j/k.. if i tell you and you get one you have to take me for a ride in it :)... well i heard about the vision slr engine build but i coulda swore i heard another project from them.. ill research it for ya and get back to you.. enzo@af 03-30-2001, 02:54 PM Awesome, thanks. LakeMountLude 03-30-2001, 03:14 PM nothing yet but few more peeps to talk to and i havent even begun online yet :).. no prob i_rebel 05-11-2001, 01:02 PM Has anyone here seen the McLaren realtime? enzo@af 05-11-2001, 05:08 PM Are you talking about the video where it makes a Veilside Supra look like a Geo metro with square wheels? i_rebel 05-14-2001, 11:51 AM Ahmm . . . actually, I meant in real life . . . not in print or on television . . . but that sounds VERY INTERESTING Enzo, care to share? Chris 05-14-2001, 12:59 PM Its in the car comparisions section, Supra vs. McLaren. It is pretty amusing. The little nip in his Supra is screaming in agony. Ha ha ha.:D GT-R V-Spec 05-22-2001, 04:24 PM If you have millions of dollars and can throw cars in the ocean you should be dragged off and shot :smoka: Chris 05-22-2001, 04:50 PM The Sultan has, ahem, billions, like about 15 of them. Yes, for his automotive crimes, he should be dragged off and shot. Sigh. Chris 05-22-2001, 04:53 PM Oh yeah, McLaren will build the SLR. I haven't heard anything of a new F1 though. ANyway, now seems to be the wrong time to get into the super-car market. Stocks are falling, but old car auctions are still more and more prosperous, and the economy should pick up, so it might not be so bad (typed with crossed fingers, which is amazingly hard to do!) enzo@af 05-22-2001, 06:57 PM Just on a sidenote, is the SLR still in plans for actual production? I seem to recall hearing somewhere that it was cut? Chris 05-23-2001, 09:52 AM I never heard that, bu tit might be true. I hope not, though. But it might sell better with a V12 ( for 250000, rich people want everything, even if the V8 is better) hermunn123 06-20-2001, 12:51 AM starting from the first reply or whatever its called: a 100 mclarens were made, yes. by my count i have 64 road going F1's. i can double check that if you guys want. there were 5 LMs. 3 GT Longtails. and 28 GTR's. ( 95-no fewer than 10 made, 96-9 made, 97- 8 made). RACER 20: the CLK GTR is going to beat the McLaren in areas except for top speed because it is a race car made for the road whereas the mclaren was made for the road then made into a race car. KOENIGSEGG CC: this car hasnt been tested yet so no one knows the acceleration times and top speed. and yes, koenigsegg is a company. DIMEX: i agree 100% with you on the CC. BLAXICANYIIK: the LM did accelerate to 60 mph in uner 3 seconds(2.9 secs). BUT it didnt go to 100 mph in under 5 seconds. i dont know the actual time for that, but under 5 seconds??? come on. and if i understood your reply correctly, you said the LM was the fastest being beaten by a callaway vette and others. the F1 held the world's fastest production car record(240.14 mph) and it still holds that record. the callaway wasnt production as someone already said, there was only one made. PSMAN32: that fin that you are talking about is the BB foil(brake and balance foil). one part of your reply is correct. it does put up under braking..doesnt have to be heavy braking depends on speed. and it also opened up a duct to the rear brakes that allowed hot air to escape easier and cooler air to cool the brakes. pretty cool, huh? PSMAN32 again: the exhaust diffuser or silencer whatever you want was intended to be the rear impact absorber. its not large enough to be considered one, it is one. the reason for this was because Gordon Murray was mad about how much the exhaust system weighed so he designed the silencer to be the rear impact absorber and it does a good job(ive seen pics of rear impacts of the F1). I_REBEL: i only wish if you guys want more info/my source/to yell at me/tell me im an idiot please reply. i enjoy talking about this car. as you can tell im a bit of a fanatic. :) Heep 06-20-2001, 09:52 AM Originally posted by beezer ive also seen a ferrrari f40 gt with gold mufflers! cool but expesive. The F40 I saw at Ferrari of Atlanta had gold mufflers...they were cool. With the hood open (even with it closed) it was SOOO loud...it sounded like a jet, distorted everybody's voices, etc. Lambo_BoY 07-28-2001, 04:11 AM McLaren F1 is a Treasure. i don't think any one has done over 500 miles. A guys in Australia has a Silver one, never drove it ONCE! Some time you wonder wuts the point of buying it. But like any other car it has good sides and bad parts to it, Center driving position is desirable and looks good, but it in fact is a pain in the arse. the F1 has a height just over a metre, it is very hard to get into the car and then sit tight in the center driving sit, same as getting out. If u ask how i know, i sat in it. Viewing angle isn't very good either, can't see shit behind you. you have to constantly checking two mirror at the same time and they don't show u much. But wut can i say, it is the best. in which ever way. Any lets not forget, CLK GTR airbons..... Never seen a McLaren do that! hermunn123 07-28-2001, 01:09 PM i seriously doubt that not one F1 has over 500 miles. there is a man in texas who owns one and drives it to work, everyday. so you've sat in a F1. do tell.. Racer 20 07-28-2001, 05:11 PM I've sat in one too. Off-course you can't see behind you, it's a mid-engined car. It belonged to a ceo of some company (didn't ask). It was dark and I couldn't tell if it was orange or red. But I'm sure it wasn't the orange LM. When I left the airport that night I couldn't sleep until 6 in the morning. I was talking to somebody who I knew worked for McLaren. Then I saw the sun come up and knew it was time ot get some rest. lol Anyway, I think McLaren doesn't have a plans for a sucessor to the F1. Plus, if your gonna make only one car you would want it to be the best drivers car ever made right? Oh well, there's always the Benz SLR... Chris 07-29-2001, 01:42 PM I would give anything to sit in one. Of course its cramped and has bad rear visibility, its a freakin supercar. I think the arrowhead configuration would be good for driving, as you are at the 'center' of the car, so you could better judge where the cars corners are, etc, etc. Lambo_BoY 07-29-2001, 09:40 PM if there is a choice of having either ONLY a McLaren's Body (no engine0 Or Only Engine, no body which one would you guys prefer? Porsche 07-29-2001, 10:11 PM I'd want both, LOL. You're so lucky to actually sit in one. But I'd go with the Body-Engine cause you can just get a Le Mans engine off BMW which makes 700hp. I think the F1 is the only or one of very few cars that have a central driver's seat, I envy those who got to see such a beauty. BTW, There's one for sale at Newport Autosport with 2500 Miles on it, the price, P.O.A whatever the hell that means, Price on asking or somthing I don't know I saw a 1974 Porsche 935 Carrera RSR and a 904 GTS with P.O.A with it beside too so it more than one easy payment of $19.95. Lambo_BoY 07-29-2001, 11:45 PM yeah that's ture, i think there is a guy in Australia brought a McLaren F1 and then mold the body, he is making a few replicas just for the family members, like the garage has over 12 McLarens. only one is real. can't even tell the freaking difference. VicenteFox 08-10-2001, 02:16 AM we need more pics in this top :E S Brake 08-10-2001, 01:31 PM Here is a sweet picture of the LM, that has to be the most beautiful shade of orange ever, and Enzo, i remeber you saying something about how you bought a Mclaren model car off of ebay and you were very angry with it, what was wrong? i just barely bought one off ebay and i don't want it to be a dud. i'll keep you posted punk_911 09-04-2001, 09:04 PM who's the guy in Australia that's got the McLaren ? any chance yah know where he lives cos I wanna stalk the dude. It's sad that those autoshow in Australa don't show the McLaren. Even though it's not new but the fact that it so rare and SUPER it should make an appearance. Lambo_BoY 09-04-2001, 09:50 PM So u can stalk my uncle?? gang$tarr 09-04-2001, 11:23 PM your uncle has a mclaren?!? if anybody else said that I'd say bullshit, but since you're 18 and you have a Diablo... I believe you Lambo_BoY 09-05-2001, 04:19 AM Nar gangster..... that was bullshit!!! but the guy is a friend of my uncle tho, he made 12 replica copies for his family members, 3 in USA, 5 in Indonisia.. and he has 4 him self, including one real one.. i sat in it once, it was magic..... 1000000000 times better than Diablo man!!! gang$tarr 09-05-2001, 05:13 PM what kind of engines do the replicas have? oh and what is the body made out off? it can't be the same material as the mclaren cause the mclaren has some cool material (maybe carbon fibre) but i saw this thing on the making of the mclaren and they cut pieces out (they're soft material, they cut with scissors) then they just put it in the shape they want it and stick it in an oven that heats it to 4000 degrees (celcius, i think) and it hardens Porsche 09-05-2001, 05:49 PM You're right Gan$tarr, thmaterial is a form of Carbon fibres. I saw that show too, it was cool, one part of the factory looks like a Giant clothing factory and then they put it in the molds and Several Thousand deggrees and tonnes of Pressure later.... Mclaren F1 body! I'd like to see the Gold Foil in the engine bay. :D gang$tarr 09-05-2001, 06:18 PM heh they showed the gold engine foil in the show I saw :) they showed it in the engine and talked about it for like 10 seconds are you talkin about the Top Gear with tiff needle? i juss downloaded it and watched it (that's what i'm talkin bout) S Brake 09-05-2001, 07:00 PM Is there any place i can see this video? where did you download it from? Lambo_BoY 09-05-2001, 07:04 PM I believe its Fibre Glass, carbon fibre is very expensive in terms of making. $30,000 just for a doggy fully body. his one is quite good, but only $28,000 for a full body... it looks the same, feels not much difference. gang$tarr 09-05-2001, 07:21 PM Originally posted by Lambo_BoY carbon fibre is very expensive in terms of making. so is a mclaren! :D gang$tarr 09-05-2001, 07:23 PM Originally posted by snowboarder927 Is there any place i can see this video? where did you download it from? i got it off a website before... but you could probably get it off morpheus (Kazaa) just type in: Top Gear Mclaren or even just top gear, cause he reviews alotta cool cars... i like his review of the E46 M3 S Brake 09-05-2001, 07:44 PM woo hoo, i got it. that has to be the best video i have EVER seen, holy crap its amazing! you should download the one where he test drives the M5, that one is bad@$$! Lambo_BoY 09-05-2001, 07:53 PM go to www.crazydrive.com its good, i got many good videos in it S Brake 09-05-2001, 07:55 PM are you sure thats it, when i clicked the link i got a speaker website. gang$tarr 09-05-2001, 08:04 PM yeah, snowboarder it's funny when he steps on the pedal, it pushes his head back and he screams! :D well no really screaming but he's like AHHHHH!!!! i can't watch it right now cause my sounds not workin :( but when they're cutting the pieces out for the body.... don't they say it's carbon fibre?? post back so i'm sure btw yeah i've seen the M5 vid it's cool, in the rain.... i've seen most of them... they're really interesting :) hermunn123 09-05-2001, 08:27 PM Lambo_Boy--- the McLaren is made of carbon fiber. that's why the McLaren is so exspensive. it has a carbon fiber monocoque, and the body panels, and doors are made of carbon fiber. it is NOT fiberglass. S Brake 09-05-2001, 08:46 PM Yeah they said it was carbon fibre in the video, and Hermunn you might want to read his first post again, then you would know that he was talking about the replica's that the guy in australia made for family members using fiberglass. my favorite part is when he goes around the corner and squeals his tires and he's like "this is sensational!" hermunn123 09-05-2001, 09:42 PM oops...:D :D :D i guess i need to learn to read a little better.... S Brake 09-05-2001, 10:00 PM Its all good! Porsche 09-06-2001, 06:03 PM I saw it on TV, Classcs on SPVN with Peter Isler, It was just Narration but they had a Factory tour with a Yellow one! and their was a chat with Gordan Murray. hermunn123 09-06-2001, 09:47 PM i wish i could meet Gordon Murray. that guy is a stud! gang$tarr 09-06-2001, 11:59 PM Originally posted by hermunn123 i wish i could meet Gordon Murray. that guy is a stud! stud? aren't you a guy? that's wrong my friend :D Chris 09-07-2001, 01:40 PM I would like a McLArens body, it is the most amazing. You can make any engine incrtedibly powerful, but you cant do the body. I have to get that video!!! I will at my moms house (high speed) Does Lambo Boy really own a lamborghini?? If so, how rich are you?? What do your parents do??? Can you please buy me a mini Cooper (an old one, real cheap, at, say, 6 or seven grand for a good, good one). Wouldnt you scream after going from 0-100 mph in 6.7 seconds?? It now has to stand up to the Bugatti Veyron, which no one knows a heck of a lot about (ex, body material, interior, seating configuration, performance, etc, etc.) gang$tarr 09-07-2001, 04:02 PM yeah, he's only 18!! and he as a Diablo! got it for a present Chris 09-07-2001, 08:19 PM Im going to the diablo forum to pursue this. hermunn123 09-25-2001, 08:32 PM quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by hermunn123 i wish i could meet Gordon Murray. that guy is a stud! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- stud? aren't you a guy? that's wrong my friend yes, im a guy. i obviously didnt mean it like that. have you ever seen the guy? he is one ugly bloke. he's a stud as in creating the world's best car. gang$tarr 09-25-2001, 10:26 PM Originally posted by hermunn123 yes, im a guy. i obviously didnt mean it like that. have you ever seen the guy? he is one ugly bloke. he's a stud as in creating the world's best car.    dill_roy 09-26-2001, 06:00 PM [COLOR=orangered] I cant belive I never found this site before. I'm in paradise! this is wonderful. and now when i talk about the McLaren F1 i don't have to worry about some loser asking me "what's that?" I have long respected this car and it is still my favorite. I want to inform all of you that there are some cars planned for production in the future that you snould know about. first is the Koenigsegg CC. the site for that is: www.koenigsegg.se (http://www.koenigsegg.se) and then there's the Lotec Sirius. the site for that is...nevermind i don't know. you can find some info about it on supercars.net (http://www.supercars.net) or this site (http://www.supersportwagen.net) both are pretty cool. The next car to look out for is the Mosler that you can see on this website (http://www.moslerauto.com) . I know there are some other challengers to the McLaren that are just stepping up to challenge the McLaren F1 after all these years(Bugatti 16/4 Veyron), but i don't particularly like their style. this new triangulation thing sux ass. so check it out and tell me what you think.:eek2: :ylsuper gang$tarr 09-26-2001, 06:48 PM there's a car called the SXR that's supposed to be coming out soon and it will be faster than the mclaren Porsche 09-26-2001, 07:50 PM That's Lambo_Boy's next car, cuase he's bored of his Diablo. I still need to here some stuff on this SXR. gang$tarr 09-26-2001, 09:26 PM yeah same here Chris 09-28-2001, 12:51 PM They should have a mosler forum, as I love this car. What company makes the SXR. I will take LAmbo_Boy's car off his hands for him if he wants. Welcome to AF dill_roy. :) Nemisis626 10-30-2001, 05:49 AM hi guys, i was just looking around AF and found this one and u guys are cool, hi chris we will have to get Lambo_Boy to post on the whats the fastest you have driven forum and upset some lamers lol. im lucky im a brit and ive seen 2 F1 in "real Life" Reg. Nos 3 MCL and 7 MCL. The guy Driving 7 MCL was one of the guys off the Top Gear Episode u guys are on about, He had the BIGGEST grin on his face, it was while i was on the M42 Motorway (Freeway) near Birmingham in heavy traffic, i was in the middle lane, looked in my mirror and saw this "Thing", Thought to myself "Nah couldnt be!!" ask my friend who was with me to see wat it was. "Its a F****** Maclaren F1" of course i slowed a little and let it come slowly past me, as i looked over i saw the guy with the grin. wouldnt we all be grinning driving that peice of Machinery. I pulled out behind him ( we only doing about 30 Mph in the traffic ) he let a gap open up in front of him, then dropped the hammer, the fin came up and i still cant believe the acceleration it has, he slowed down and let me pass him i nodded over to him, he waved back, then he left the Motorway:D BTW i had my window open and the Stereo off to listen to the Engine, it is so sweet Who Needs A Stereo in an F1. 3 MCL i just saw in passing, not as much fun:o Still it was an F1 tho.:sun: The question of Body or Engine? Has to body cos there aint much the engine can go in anyway, and at least the Body will still look good. Chris 10-30-2001, 03:38 PM So you saw Tiff Needle in the F1. Awesome!! He is one of the few journalists who actually got to drive that car, he is so lucky. I bet Lambo_Boy hasnt cracked 100...:D gang$tarr 10-30-2001, 09:05 PM I'm sure lambo_boy has been way over a 100.... i bet he goes that fast by accident :D Nemisis626 10-31-2001, 04:08 AM Nah Chris it wasnt Tiff It was one of the guys who works for McLaren i think. Chris 10-31-2001, 02:51 PM Either way, the guy is lucky!!! gang$tarr 10-31-2001, 04:53 PM nemisis get that top gear off of the internet and watch it again... i'm like 99% sure it's tiff needel driving the mclaren.... actually 99.9% sure Chris i think you're right about the Lambo episode, that fro guy isn't tiff.... i compared their voices and they're different :D :D Nemisis626 11-02-2001, 08:15 AM yes Gang$tarr it was Tiff driving on the top gear episode but this was awhile after it when i was on the Freeway, im pretty sure it was one of the Engineer guys who was driving it. Nice perk of the job i supose ( The LUCKY Git ), i saw the top gear thing on TV when it was first aired, not sure but i think tiff went on to drive the F1 in Le Mans. Chris 11-02-2001, 02:43 PM Driven at LeMans!!! I know the guy is talented (nickname: Opposite Locksmith), but that good, wow!! He would have been there when the McLarens swept, too, then. Platinumxtcs 01-13-2002, 07:37 PM Attention: Building a McLaren F1... The McLaren is known as one of the most exotic cars in the world, of course you know that. Also one of the hardest to get, We are building a McLaren F1 replica. This is like no ordinary replica though. We build the chassi from a 1 1/2 " tubular powder coated steel, instead of a some other stretched car. It can be powder coated any color you would like. We have a racing suspension, carbon fiber body, BMW V12 modified, CD player, working fin in the back, working compartments, and center drive. This well built car has the same dimensions as the original, cant tell the difference, and the differences will be the gold lining in the engine compartment and the satellite uplink. We do not have those. The original goes for you know a cool 1 to 1.8 million dollars. Did you also know, if you bought a real McLaren you are only allowed to drive it 2500 miles a year? If driven over 2500 miles they take the car back. We of course do not do that, you may put as many miles as you want. Our McLaren may be serviced at any BMW mechanic or any BMW dealer. When the car is registered it will be registered as a McLaren F1 R1 or just McLaren R1. You may have this car painted in any color you want, frame and body, and...if there are any differences you want done differently to this car you may ask and we can possibly add or subtract what you want or don't want. We can make it a limited edition... Please reply and ask me any more questions you may have. Price will go up on demand, and we will not make very many. Please get back to me asap $160,000 down starts the car, you pay the rest when finished, or you can go ahead and pay in full. Up to you. We will not start any car unless we have a deposit, car is very costly and takes 4 to 4 1/2 months to build. But the wait will be worth it.. Order now and get yours before summer 2002 Have fun in the sun!!! please spread the word the McLaren is back!!! Thank You!! Jeff Platinum Exotics:o :smoker::flipa: sikh 01-13-2002, 08:02 PM I doubt they can take away your property when you drive it even 1.000.000 miles a year. They surely mean you should do a Full Service after 2500 miles or 9 months. These are sadly no unusual intervals for supercars. Chris 01-13-2002, 09:39 PM Actually, they are allowed under the show and display clause. Which limits mileage to 2500 miles a year. A racetrack is different, and unlimited. S Brake 01-16-2002, 06:53 PM Tiff was an F1 and Le Mans driver. he lead a lap in Lemans while driving one of Aston Martins cars. the guy with the afro in the lambo episode is Jeremy Clarkson, he is one of their contributing editors. Turbyne 02-20-2002, 02:05 AM Further extending hermunn123's explanation of the moving wing on the McLaren: The wing provides several things: • high speed braking stability (back wheels won't lock as easily, thus won't spin out, especially on a mid-engine car) • more even brake bias at high speeds, thus • feasability for use of softer brake pads, thus • drivability with unboosted and non-ABS brakes, even across the high speed range, thus • reduced weight (no power braking equipment!) And about the gold: Gold is the best heat reflector. It is also a very good conductor. What this means is the actual radation from the engine bounces off the gold, through the glass, and out into space. If the gold wasn't there, the heat would be hitting the nice black carbon fiber, which we all know is not too healthy. As technologically advanced and beautiful the McL F1 is, one must realize how much of its technology trickled down from the aerospace industry. (Vector.. <shudders>) This is a good amount of reading, hope it doesn't raise your nerdosterone/geekstrogen levels too much: you may have a dorkgasm! :D http://www.mclarencars.com/content/sections/mainfr/comp.htm click on press, read the stuff (and YES, www.mclarencars.com is the OFFICIAL McLaren [road] Cars company website) Here's a few McL F1 desktops I made http://www.geocities.com/turbynegtx/f1lm.jpg http://www.geocities.com/turbynegtx/f1lma.jpg <- my fav http://www.geocities.com/turbynegtx/f1lmb.jpg Car and Driver, the greatest car magazine out there, did a story on the Koeingsegg CC in the Nov 2001 issue: http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/roadtests/2001/november/200111_roadtest_superegg.xml Road and Track, Car & Driver's snobby prep-school brother, actually reviewed the F1 a while back. I can't find the date exactly, if someone can check at a library or something I'm sure you can find it. For the most part, this looks like the text: http://jamesh91.tripod.com/page_3.htm And to the chassis count: There were 100 produced for order, but I believe there may have been somewhere around 5 prototypes built as well. Look closely at details (bumper, mirror, etc.) and you might be able to spot out which ones were protoypes. (one of them being the blue XP5 that Tiff Needell drove on Top Gear). http://people.bu.edu/mingda/img/turbyne_s.jpg hermunn123 02-20-2002, 07:19 PM in my November '94 issue of Road and Track which has the F1 on the cover, Paul Frere wrote a different article than the one you posted in the link. that article does look to be written by Road and Track though considering Peter Egan wrote it. Turbyne: where did you get all your information? that was good stuff. Turbyne 02-21-2002, 05:21 PM hermunn123: You mean the stuff about the wing? That’s just from years of relentless, obsessive research on the internet and reading anything that had to do with the McL F1 (hmm, you could pronounce that mackle-fun). (I didn’t have a life then). The company website (www.mclarencars.com) has a lot of information by itself, so just going there will tell you a lot. Also, being an avid reader of Car & Driver will teach you a lot about cars as well, and their online glossary of car terms (http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/glossary/glossary.xml) is well worth the eyestrain. I’m also an Aerospace Engineering student [NERD], so I’m in the process of learning how to build something like this (only it actually does fly!). Very often I’ll get back home from a long day of classes, look at something, and realize how it works; understanding the McL F1’s use of Aurum is one such case. It's just pondering. Now, for something completely unrelated to what I was just babbling about: For BMW fanatics: The 6.0L BMW V12 is a wonderful piece of machinery, but here’s a power plant BMW made a while back you probably haven’t heard of. It’s got 14 cylinders, displaces 42 liters, and pumps out 1,730 HP. The BMW 801D-2 engine: http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/LRG/bmw801d.html http://www.nasm.si.edu/nasm/aero/aircraft/focke_190f.htm Ok, ok, so the 801D has 41.2 hp/L compared to the McL’s 106, but Bruce McL was still in diapers when this engine was flyin’ high. Another potentially useless random fact: For the drag racers out there, comparing power:weight ratios. • A McLaren F1 LM outputs approximately 670 hp for its 2,337 pounds, yielding a power to weight ratio of 0.287 hp/lb. • An F-15E Eagle outputs 58,000 lbs of thrust for its 40,000 pounds, yielding a power to weight ratio (at 231 mph) of 491.26 hp/lb. :D http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/704045turbyne_s.jpg Turbyne 02-21-2002, 05:30 PM I think it was the December '97 issue: http://www.google.com/search?q=%22PETER+EGAN%22+%22McLaren+F1%22&btnG=Google+Search&hl=en :) http://files.automotiveforums.com/uploads/704045turbyne_s.jpg vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
