It isn't mine, it belongs to a friend. It was built last year, and is now undergoing a rebuild. I'll try to find a mod list.

What are my chances to find a 2nd gen RX-7 in driveable condition and will last at least 1.5 years for about 2k US$?
It of course hasn't to be top of the line but hopefully more than 150hp.

Bean Bandit:
I've looked at them on autotrader.com and I've seen some in good condition for about the price you suggested. I'd check there. You probably won't find a Turbo II or a convertable, but look.

Thanx I hope I'll find some like those also in Switzerland(will be tough)

Oh, yeah...I see. autotrader.com is pretty US biased. There are other places, like vehix.com that might help...but I think they're the same sort of thing.

I checked autoweb (www.autoweb.ch) but they have only a few overpriced ones:(

Bandit....how much does one cost there? are you saving money for one? if yes, which gen are you gunning 4?

Bean Bandit

I'll have to save up to 10kUS$ for a 2nd gen in good condition. As I anyway don't have that much money I'll keep searching for a 2nd gen in the price range of 3k to 5k unfortunately it shure will have about 100k miles what is rather bad 'cause the engine could take more miles only if it was treated right:( Anyway I'll keep saving money and some day in the future I'll have enough to fulfill my first dreamcar a 3rd gen with 20B engine:D (first dreamcar because it's the cheapest dream;) and maybe if fortune like's me I can afford my biggest dream a 993 Porsche Turbo S when I'm about 70 years old:D

I agree...u'll need 2 have US8-10k to get a good 2nd gen one. I got a 2nd gen '90 Turbo II or Mk5 for almost 10k which is the top spec except the 2nd gen infini 4 (215hp turbo version)...those only available in japan. now i'm looking for efini or i'll drop the 13B-REW into my 2nd gen

i love the latest generation... is it gone or something? i never see any at dealerships. I must be a little slow :D

I read in my car book thingy that 2gens are more normal car-like, less sports carsy, if that makes sense to you guys. I myself don't care for it that much, but the latest are awesome

I'll be happy with the regular 150hp version but maybe I'll go with the quite ugly fronted 323 GTR it has rocking 190hp which are easy to increase to 210+ without touching the turbo:D

FC3S
03-13-2001, 04:54 AM
bandit...if 323 GTR is quite ugly...how about going 4 miata or eunos hatchbacks...miata is too pricey now but eunos h/back might be pretty affordable as these are best looking car after the 7s.

Bean Bandit
03-13-2001, 05:23 AM
Eunos? The only Eunos I know is the Cosmo but you shure don't mean that. We have other names here in Europe e.g. the Miata is the MX-5. Do you have a pic or a link of the car you mean?

FC3S
03-13-2001, 08:22 PM
The Eunos is actually the mx-3. Sorry, i forgot about globalilty...hehe. Here and in some parts of Asia, they are called Eunos Presso or Autozam AZ-3.

Here's a link:

This morning, I saw a 2nd gen for $3500 U.S. in the newspaper classifieds. The only thing was, it was listed as a 2+2.

I wasn't aware that they made the FC3S in a 2+2. Is this true? If so, it would be great for my friend. He was looking at another FC for $2995, but he knew his insurance would be much too high with a 2 seater. He really wants an FD, but I know he doesn't have the money for it. A 2+2 FC might be right up his alley.

Can anyone help me out with this?

To my best knowledge the (86-88) GXL and the later GTU's are the only RX's to have the optional 2+2 model. Even though it has a back seat, you won't fit anything more than a small adult or child back there, (more as an insurance saving option).

That's what I needed to know. As long as a car has 4 seats, the insurance will be lower. That's why Porsche even bothered putting them in the 911s. The back seats will help my friend out with insurance, which was his big problem.

You can find a 2nd Gen in really good condition for under $4500. Convertibles usually are about $5000. Turbos should also be under $5000. High mileage (about 100k) is not really a bad thing on the non-turbo, and in many cases, very low mileage is a bad thing because the engine has not been run enough to keep the seals in good shape. Also, it is a bad idea to buy one from someone that says it's been babied all it's life. Rotaries like to be revved to redline, and if they aren't carbon builds up and can cause problems and a shorter engine life. I bought my car with 120,000 miles. It now has 135,000, and it is running stronger than it was before I bought it, partially because I drive it hard every single day.
