2000 GMC Jimmy - tire size & brand recommedationGeorge Foote 01-02-2004, 12:39 PM Hi, Could someone please recommend (from experience I hope) a tire size and brand for my 2000 Jimmy (4dr, 4 x 4). I go onto the various tire web sites and try to select the best tire based upon the size on it now .. just too overwhelmed with the selections. I'm looking for a tire with high threadware, temperature and speed rating numbers. It looks like the big name guys (Michelin, Goodyear etc) are just that ... using their name. When I look at the "details" on the tires they seem to fall short of what I'm looking for. Recently, I replaced my 1999 Pontiac tires with Dunlop tires.. not an impressive name ,, but the ratings were very high. Last week I saw a Cherokee Jeep with tires from Pep Boys ... Avenger AT .. I think was the name .. looked pretty good too. So today as I look for tires for the Jimmy .. name doesn't matter. The tires on the vehicle today are Uniroyal AT, P235/70R/15. The tires look okay but, I rather have ones with more of an agressive thread design and maybe a litlle larger. Could I up the size safely? What size? Thanks, George tman 01-02-2004, 01:30 PM I'll move this to the tire forums, as it was in the pontiac forums. George Foote 01-02-2004, 05:46 PM Thanks for moving my message. I'm new to the site and noticed that once I submitted the message it was placed in the wrong heading and I couldn't find out how to correct my mistake. Thanks again, George tman 01-03-2004, 08:25 PM You cant move your own threads, thats a moderators only feature, but I was glad to help you! Grant@Tirerack 01-05-2004, 11:46 AM The largest size that will fit the stock rims would be a 235/75-15. For a nice all-terrain that offers good tread wear, nice ride quality, and very good wear, I would look at the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo. We have them in stock at $95.00 each. That by far is the best value in a good all-terrain in that size. They are about 8/10" taller in O.D. than the stock tires and a little wider. George Foote 01-05-2004, 02:49 PM Grant thanks for the information. I went onto the Bridgestone web site ... the Dueler AT Revo is a sharp looking tire. I've also spotted a Goodyear tire "Fortera HL Editon" that also looks pretty sharp and has those good rating numbers I'm looking for. However, I got to see them in person. I have both of these two stores in my area .. about 10 miles away from were I live ... and now that I'm getting closer ... I got to go and see them in person. Thanks again, George George Foote 01-10-2004, 09:56 AM Grant .. just an update on my selection for the Jimmy 2000. I final saw the two tires that I was considering ...the Firestone Dueler AT Revo and the Goodyear Fortera. I bought the Firesone's. The thread pattern and depth was impressive. I kinda paid about $120 each (total $360) ... since the Firestone store I purchased them from was running a "buy 3 and get the 4th free" deal ...it really comes down to about $90/tire. On the road and out the door (mount, balance, shop supplies, tax) the grand total was $429. Also .. I did go with the size your recommended P235/75/15 (vs the P235/70/15) .. the Firestone store recommended is too. Thanks again for your recommendation. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
