Hey all, I was just wondering if I should buy a 1988 Acura Legend, it's got 189,000 miles on it and I was just checking to see how long you guys think it would last? It's an automatic and has never been raced, driven by an adult driver.

I like mine. It belonged to my late aunt; only 70Kmi.
Check timing belt. transmission jerks when shifting, as reported by others in the forum. My problem with it window fogging aaused by moisture in heater chamber/ducts. Not the oily, smelly type you can get w/a bad heater core. I am going to see if anyone on the list knows hkow to drain it out.

I have a 1990 Legend LS automatic sedan that now has 193,000 miles on it. I bought it 12/02 with 150,000 miles. Despite my ravenous (and unfortunate) appetite for miles, the car is holding up beautifully and has required no major unscheduled service. At 180 some thousand miles, I first noticed that the transmission my be beginning its decline--when cold (sitting overnight), the engine will rev up during the shift between second and third gears. After two or three such unruly shifts, it then shifts fine until again parked overnight.

It seems like the Legend you're looking at may be in a bad mileage range if it's still on the original transmission. Could you find one with lower mileage? Also, if you do buy it, check when the timing belt/water pump were last replaced. Intervals are recommended for 90,000 miles, and mine cost over $700 to be done.

Good luck, and advise me of any other questions. I love my Legend, and would recommend one to anybody.

i have an 88 legend LS. bought it from a co worker. when i bought it, it had 226,000 miles on it. still works fine, no major repairs done to it. i did have to replace the radiator hoses and power steering hose. the interior and exterior is in bad shape because the lady never took care of it. it drives perfectly though. i would suggest checking it out and if u like it go for it.
