1996 3.0 oil leakarcturusmine 01-01-2004, 01:12 PM I have a 1996 Caravan with 123,000 with a 3.0 that has a very bad oil leak. There is nothing in the oil such as antifreeze or the like. It appears to be coming from the flywheel side of the engine, however there is oil puddling on top of the intake manifold. Could this be a rear main seal that blew? What kind of problems have these engine have that might have caused this? Thanks, Todd hernandez3674 01-01-2004, 02:41 PM Take a look at the valve covers. If you see puddling up there thats better than a seal. Look at the bolts and check for puddling up there also. Many things can cause oil leak but make sure you look at the PCV valve. The PCV system crucial for to proper engine sealing. The system alleviates crankcase pressure, which can push out on seals and gaskets, contributing to oil leaks. arcturusmine 01-01-2004, 03:40 PM Thank you. We were just out looking at it and there is indeed puddling behind the the top of the rocker covers. Anything really tough to replacing the gaskets? Where is the PCV valve located and how do you tell if it is bad? Thanks, Todd hernandez3674 01-01-2004, 04:25 PM check near the plenum near the throttle body. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
