Hi we are going to be towing my brother in laws 98 4 runner behind a uhaul truck later this week. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this with out damaging the vehical, specifcally the 4 wheel drive? Thanks in advance!

I haven't towed my 4Runner yet, but I used to tow my Jeep. Using a tow bar (which I hope you have) I would just put the Jeep in NEUTRAL, disconnect the rear drive shaft and hook it up. I drastically limited my speed when towing.

I'm not sure if you have to disconnect the drive shaft on our 4Runners though. Sorry...I'm not much help on this matter. Have you consulted a dealership service center?
