squeak/squeal in 97 pathfindercoachtbarr 12-29-2003, 11:59 AM I cannot figure out what is squealing in the front end of my pathfinder. I replaced all belts (except timing belt), replaced upper tensioner pulley. Any ideas? I was thinking either something to do with timing belt or lower tensioner pulley. I cannot pinpoint where noise is coming from. It could be lower tensioner pulley, but Pathfinder is due for a timing belt, so that is my next step. Any ideas are much appreciated, thanks. spargosc 08-26-2004, 06:21 PM I am having the same problem on my 98. Was it the water pump making this noise? I'm going to replace mine and the timing belt. Should I be looking at replacing something else? sonyslave 11-20-2004, 06:39 AM My 96 is doing it too. It used to come and go. Now it is more constant. Check your coolant level this MAY or may not be the problem. I noticed that the squeek/squeal/ hummgrind (the sound is sort of combo of all three sounds) increased when a lot of my coolant leaked out while I was on the freeway. -bad hose (and almost impossible to spot -the hose that cracked and leaked is nearly hidden behind the timing belt and under the distibutor -i couldn't tell where the leak was comming from until I took off the radiator and did a pressure test w/soap sprayed on the area where the hiss was comming from. My temp gauge never went beyond it's normal day to day range. I just hope my water pump is ok. Will post again with fresh coolant. I also thought that it maybe the pulley tensioner (upper one seems a little rough to the touch when rotating it by hand). so I'll probably replace that too since everything is apart. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
