Overheatinglenpt 12-27-2003, 05:54 PM I performed a search already and haven't found an answer to my problems. So here is the problem: My engine overheated today. I flushed the radiator and added fresh coolant. We have replaced the coolant temperature sensor. The fuses are all good. We were able to get the radiator fan to kick on by getting a direct current from the battery. What else can we check? I have a 1999 Grand Cherokee inline 6 with 87K. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Len richpinkham 12-30-2003, 12:22 PM Replace the fan relay under the passanger side headlight. Its hard to see you have to take the battery box out and undo the power center but if you do you can see it under the headlight area attached to the fenderwell. Dealer cost is around $70.00 or you can order one from fdrepairshop for a lot cheaper. I drilled 1/2 inch holes in the panel under the headlight to get to the screws, and would suggest using an electroninc heatsink compound from Radio Shack on the back to help get rid of the heat. Hope this helps. If you need more info just email me as I just had to do the one on my 99 Grand w/I6 richpinkham@yahoo.com tonyb1 09-23-2004, 01:18 PM I also have a 99 Jeep Cherokee with an overheating problem. Good Year has already replaced the fan relay and it seemed to work. That lasted about 2 months and they needed to replace the relay again. This morning it overheated. If I drive the car on the highway the temp gage goes to the center but when I stop it goes to over temp. When I turn the AC on the fan works. What else could it be. richpinkham 09-23-2004, 10:01 PM I also have a 99 Jeep Cherokee with an overheating problem. Good Year has already replaced the fan relay and it seemed to work. If it works with the AC on then check the engine temp sencer for the fan control. there are 2 temp senders on the engine and one controls the fan relay Good luck vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
