I just got a 95 neon. all seems good but 2 things
1. wheel bearing (front) anyone ever done one of these? just wondering how easy? and if i should get just the bearing or the whole hub asembly?

2. high pitched noise coming from the engine compartment???
It sounds like RF interference in the stereo system, but that is not it.
(if you have ever ran a switch wire along the RCA's you'll know the sound)
it sounds more electric than mechanical.
somethings it might be..

Computer - read this makes noise when the car is off??? not the case here

Brakes - not the case. sounds electrical

Alt. Belt - maybe... it was just done before i got it. but would it sound electrical?

Timing Belt Tensioner - maybe... does this make a whining sound????

p.s. i am going to atempt to do the wheel bearing, water pump and the time belt at the same time..... any good suggestions to make it go easier? (SOHC)

1. Bearings need to be pressed in, IIRC. Not terribly difficult if you have an arbor press. If not, you can take it to a machine shop.

2. My vote is a pulley, or the tensioner, like you said. It could also be a vacuum leak, but it's nearly impossible to say for sure without actually hearing it.

When you change the timing belt, get a new tensioner. It's cheap insurance, and the updated tensioner is WAY better than the '95 part. Good luck!

2. found a dealer to do a timing belt and water pump for $400


I still might try it my self. $45 for the belt and $25 for the pump is a lot cheaper.

Where can i find the tensioner and how much? i called the parts places (NAPA AutoZone) and they say they don't have them.
Is it a manual tensioner or hydraulic?

pnumatic(hydraulic). And, It is a bitch to compress with out some sort of C clamp.

The updated part is hyrdraulic, like Cyber Lord said.
