I have a 2000 grand cherokee, when i open my rear hatch the interior lights dont stay on, any suggestions? Also when i open my drivers side door, the light doesnt come on, but when i open all other doors the lights come on. Thanks in advance.

I suspect a bad earth on the door open switch.

There are two switches. One on the right of the door frame. This is the 'door open' indicator switch for the computer display. The second, which is for the interior light, is on the left hand side (half way between the two door hinges)

I have a 2003 with the same problem, my hatch light never turns on when I open it, I have to manually press the button for it to turn on.. wierd

That is the exact example of a bad earth.

When the button is out, the back of the button makes contact with the body of the car (connecting to earth) and completes the circuit (therefore the light turns on - or off as in this case.). Either the back of the contact of the body of the car has become corroded - so when the contact tries to make contact, the corrosion prevents the circuit from being completed.

Simply remove the switch and clean the contact and body with a wire brush removing any corrosion, and replace. Everything should work fine after that.
