Buying a 3000gt

Hey Guys,

I am looking to buy a 1995- 98 3000gt (base model) with around 60,000-90,000 miles. I am curious to know, from the owners of 3000gts, if they are mechanically reliable. I had an eclipse rs and had quite a few problems with the engine.

I did some independent research and got a variety of answers ranging for one end of spectrum to another; so your opinion on this question of mine will determine if I buy the car or not. Should i go for it or look into something else?

Like any other used car, the reliability is going to be directly proportional to the care the car was given and how it was driven. Have a mechanic you trust give it the once over. If he says its in good shape then you shouldn't have any suprises.

The 3000 has been a very reliable car for me (the VR4s). I am not familiar with any consistent problems comging from the base models.

:iagree: VR-4's can be pretty reliable if you treat them right and the bases have a lot less to worry about so if it was treated well you should have no problem.

The base and SL should be able to last you quite a lot longer than the VR4. I've seen many base/SL's in the 150K+ miles. There are fewer VR4s which hit that mile marker but it has happened. Those, of course, were well taken care of. Yogs takes great care of his cars, so they should last long. I believe the VR4 he had sold had around 100K and was running strong. Make sure you find the PERFECT car before making any decision. Don't jump on something right away because your Id envelopes you. Let your ego have a glimpse. ;p
