+40mm or +48mm offset on 17x7's?

I am about to order a set of 17 X 7 rims for my 04 V6 COuple, and am not sure what the best offset is for this car (what's factory offset?).

The rims I like come in +40mm and +48mm offsets. Anyone know which fits with most clearance (most talk around here is for bigger rims, I know, but I like having a little rubber between my wheels and the road : )

I plan to go with either 215/50/17's, or maybe 235/45/17's if they will fit with no issues.

Thanks!

if you're planning to lower your car or its already lowered i'd recommend +48mm.

i'd go with 215/50/17 or 225/50/17 tires they very close stock tire diameter, when 235/45/17 slightly smaller

I agree with the 48mm offset. I tried the 40 and they didn't work well with the 215/50/17. My current offset is 45 and the tires barely fit (mainly because I rounded my rear fender wells). Of course it doesn't help that my wheels are a 8 wide instead of 7.5. Currently I am running 225/45/17.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies,

I ordered +48mm 17x7's and plan to go with 225/50/17 (not lowering it for now). Will let you guys know how it works out once I buy some tires.
