I just bought my Pathfinder used and I'm abit confused about the power locks.. tell me if this is right...

1) when I close the driver door, if the locks are in the down postion, they pop back up on both doors.

2) if I turn the key it will lock both doors, but the unlock only unlocks the driver door

To me this seems like bizarre behavior for an otherwise well designed car.
Is there an actual power lock mechanism in the driver side door? I want to get an aftermarket keyless remote/starter to lock both doors.. would it work?

Hi there. A couple of years ago, I had a 95 path; now I have a 99, and both were similar with the power locks.
When you close the door, the lock down, and the key in the ignition, switch, they will pop up.

If your car is locked, and you turn the key 1 time, it'll open just the driver's side, but if you do it 2 turns, it have to open both, or all doors.

Hope this help a bit. :smokin:

sounds like someone messed with the systeem (maybe trying to fix something and could not and/or trying to install an aftermarket system).

Each door as an actuator (pops the locks up and down), so if you are not too into electronics,I would just buy an aftermarket system that you'll like and let that same shop deal with it and get it working as it should.

On my 88 Pathfinder, I have to lift up the door handle to get the doors to stay locked. I'd imagine it's a security feature. I don't know about why the doors don't unlock all together, on mine, if I lock / unlock the door from the driver's side, all locks operate.
