I took the plug out of the oil pan to drain the oil, and guess what, the threads came out with the plug. I guess my wifes dad put the plug in to tight last time.

anywho, I was going to drop the pan, and drill\tap the hole for a plug thats one size bigger.

My question: Do I have to remove the exhaust manifold to get the pan to drop? It looks like it might drop without removing the E.M., but im not sure...

anyone dont this?

thanks,
Phillip

Hey, if you want, I'll send you my oil pan. I have an extra one. It was from a 96 CIvic EX (d16y8) It is missing a bolt. Just send $25 for the shipping, and I'll send it to you. My girlfriend wants me to get rid of it, and if no one wants it, I gotta throw it away... There's nothing wrong with it. It's in great condition, but has no bolt.

You can get a special drain plug from an auto parts store for a couple $$$, unless you want to remove the pan & re-tap.

Got it fixed. After looking closely, I noticed the plug only brought out 3 threads with it, so there where still some inthere. I bought a longer plug, and put it in there. 14mmx20 It is holding fine.

metalsign: what do you mean missing a bolt? Where a you located? Im in Houston, TX

I bought the pan from a junkyard off a 96 Civic EX. I went to sears to have my oil done, and they said the bolt hole was stripped out and that someone put a heli coil in there. The heli coil fell out, they couldn't put it back in, and they didn't have another one. It was leaking like a sieve. 1 qt every couple of days. They told me I had to get a new oil pan or have the old one retapped, etc. Honda quoted me $400 for parts and labor to which I said Hell No! I got the aforementioned new oil pan for $85 and I tried to take my old one off. I couldn't get it off, so I took the bolt out of the new pan and put it in the old one. No more leaks! So I still have the good oil pan, but I used the bolt from it for my old one. Sorry about the long explanation.

Yes, the drain plug. I couldn't get the pan off. I put the car up on jackstands, and I tried to undo a bolt that connected the exhaust manifold to the exhaust downpipe. I couldn't get it off. So I gave up and took the drain plug from the new pan and put it in the old pan, and no leaks. So I have the new pan with no drain plug....
