Lightened flywheel worth it?Ricochet 12-11-2003, 02:15 PM Anybody got an aftermarket flywheel? My sargeant got one on his Si and said there's a pretty big difference in pickup.. CivicEXRider 12-11-2003, 02:30 PM I would say..YES I'm running a 8.4lb ACT Prolite flywheel and it does make a difference. Probably get the same gain as unhooking your powersteering and AC belts but the good thing is you don't have to. I did the flywheel, crank pully, and ALT/PS underdrive pullies at the same time so it was a difference I could really feel. Milliardo 12-11-2003, 02:38 PM Very big difference. If you noted on my thread about killing the SiR in second gear, the ACT Streetlight flywheel made a lot of difference. Not just small, not just slight, but very big. And that's using a 12 lbs. flywheel. The ACT Prolite one is abour 8.7lbs. if I'm correct, which should have better gains. One drawback is that the rpm goes down quite fast on low gears, but at high speed it shouldn't matter since you maintain your foot on the accelerator, unlike in traffic. i_a_n112784 12-11-2003, 03:53 PM It's a thing called moment of inertia. Basically, the more weight you have to spin, the longer it will take to get to a certain rpm. The less weight, the faster it will get to that rpm. So a lighter flywheel will make the car rev faster. But, if you are hard on the clutch, and really produce alot of heat, it is much easier to warp light flywheels. Ricochet 12-11-2003, 04:22 PM I am a little hard on the clutch with having to deal with traffic every day.. hmm.. I'll probably just leave it stock, car's fast enough for me to have to go and sacrifice reliability on something like that. Thanks for that thought. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
