318 or 360 Swap!!!!R_WALDO_86 12-11-2003, 12:38 PM :banghead: I have a '96 Jeep Grand Cherokee, it has about 125,000 miles on it but the interior and body are in excellent shape. The motor is still good and doesnt leak or use oil. My only problem is that I'm running 32''x11.50'' BFG mud terrains and a 3'' lift, and the little 4.0 I6 isn't getting the job done. It was my daily driver, but due to poor gas mileage, i've purchased a car to drive back and forth from school and work. I love this jeep and it is very unique. I want to know what it would take to drop a 5.2 or a 5.9 in it. I realize that the 318 was in the jeep from 93 on, but the 5.9 only was only available in '98. I'd love the power of a 5.9, but what will i need as far as computer, engine components, fuel injection, ect. I may be willing to compromise with a 318 if parts are a lot cheaper. Will either of these bolt up to the stock auto trans? What about axles and transfer case? It is very important that if i do go through with this, that it is in this jeep because it was my first car and i want to keep it around. In other words don't tell me the logical and simple, get a new Grand Cherokee with the motor you want and swap out all of the suspension and wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :screwy: mikebender 12-12-2003, 03:21 PM forget it. it would be to expensive with a 4.0. get new gears. 4:11 or 4:56 if you plan on 33's. there are plenty of grands with 35"plus tires with the 4.0 R_WALDO_86 12-17-2003, 01:29 PM I realize that gears may be a logical answer, but it just isn't the rumble and power like a V8. After the swap, I plan on throwing on a set of lockers. With the lockers, I may do a gear change as well. I just want to figure out the specifics on the 318 and 360 swaps. Thanks for the input though. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
