What to do with an engineless Mark 1??willzy 12-10-2003, 04:18 PM So, I decided to buy an MR2 mark 1 for a bit of fun! 1989, 88,000 miles, service history, lady owner, immaculate interior/exterior etc Then very soon the clutch died, the gear box and linkage died... i had them replaced, only to discover the ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS REBUILDING! One option is to cut my losses, and just discard the whole thing... and not waste good money on a bad car... however... if i DID rebuild the engine, it would go like new! and i could drive the car hard without worry. I'm also considering putting in an entirely new engine, imagine a mark 1 with 250bhp! What i'm asking is, generally, what ideas can you come up with? or do you think it's not worth parting the cash. Any insight would be helpful, thanks. ac427cpe 12-10-2003, 04:50 PM well... my mk1 has a 3sgte in it now :naughty: but... i wouldn't suggest that unless you are good with a welder and extreeeeemly good at wiring.... and have lots and lots of spare time. i know that Bill Strong has a northstar v8 in one of his, as well as a 1.5, and one with a 20v head... it's really up to you what you want to do with the car, but there are a ton of options. good place to start http://www.board.mr2faq.com/ good luck with whatever you do... willzy 12-11-2003, 07:49 AM Thanks bud, that was helpful :) intensentn 01-08-2004, 05:01 PM I put a sc motor in my 88 and now 3rd fth and fifth gear are gone so I feel your pain. Think I'll sell the motor and part it all out! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
