Trouble Code 54! Help Please!

Earlier this morning as I was backing out of a resort in Walt Disney World, the engine just died on my '97 Plymouth Neon and I performed the On-Board Diagnostic and received two error codes: 12 and 54. I know that 12 means that the battery was recently disconnected due to the fact that I just replaced it about a week ago. Code 54, which I have managed to determine from other websites is indicative of no camshaft signal being detected during the engine cranking. Basically no camshaft position sensor signal was received from the distributor and that this may mean that there is a problem with the distributor synchronization circuit, but I have no clue as to what that all means and how much financial damage I am looking at. Is this possibly a job that can be performed with the use of a Chilton's Guide or the assistance of another individual that knows how to properly perform repairs on vehicles and not an expensive mechanic or dealership? Please, I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions and/or advice. The car is sitting in a private parking lot located on the Walt Disney World Resort and I haven't towed it yet in the hopes that I may be able to repair it there and drive off with it it.

Code 54 says that the cam is not synchronized. It is a pretty cheap fix labor wise. I don't know the price of the part. But I just had mine changed today.(I haven't got the bill yet.) I took about twenty min. But it did take some wiring skill. But now I have a rough start.(code 54 is not my only problem right now). Also this was in a '95. Once you have it fixed and if you have a rough start, please let me know. So that mabey I can get to the bottom of my problem.
