Aaargh!!! 97 Ls help greatly appreciated...miles28 12-08-2003, 05:53 PM Hi, brand new to this forum and have tried to search all the posts to see if anyone else having the same problems but no luck...here's my problem: Over the course of a year my engine light has been coming on. After a trip to a dealer and an auto garage if gotten several different diagnostics. I have been having idling and starting problems for a while now. Heres what I have replaced or had replaced: Alternator (2x's) Fuel Pump & Filter Oxygen Sensor (by the catalytic) Plugs & Wires Battery My car ran fine for awhile, but just yesterday I started it and it immediately started to idle rough, burns very rich and stutters while driving with a noticaeble loss of power. Now the "check engine" light isn't just on, it's blinking. I'm hoping (no, praying) that it's not a fuel injector and have listened to each and they all sound like they are firing. The car has 83,000 miles on it. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :banghead: RABarrett 12-10-2003, 04:03 PM When the light is blinking, the problem causing the light is present at that time. Recording the code stored is the place to start. I suspect an EGR issue, causing the EGR to not close completely, allowing flow to disrupt ide quality, and set a code. I cannot see how the other stuff you suggested having been replaced will cause this problem, the fact that it returned is proof. Go with the code stored first, and let me know... Ray miles28 12-11-2003, 03:26 PM OK Took it to the local autozone, where they can do a simple scan for free. They said the code showed a #5 cylinder misfire. Took it home to see if it may be a sparkplug wire, so I switched around the #3 & #5 cylander wires....took it back and they scanned it again. Now said multiple cylinder misfire. BUT the car started running perfectly and the check engine light went off....Any ideas? miles28 12-11-2003, 03:28 PM Oh yeah, almost forgot....also replaced the TPS as well gmirenda 12-14-2003, 04:52 PM clean the contacts on the plugwires and plug miles28 12-15-2003, 08:07 PM what's the best way to clen the contacts, steel wool? gmirenda 12-25-2003, 04:17 PM The best thing is to use a wire brush and some isopropal alcohol.
