I was driving my friend's AT 95 am and every thing seemed to be okay. Except the seat belts were attached to the door( imagine ur self getting blown off being attached to the door.) Anyways I stop at the red light and when the lights go green nothing seemed to work the acceleration the gears won't change but the car was still on. So I turn it off and try to start again but it doesn't work. Then I get out to tell people behind me to go forgetting my keys on and the f***ing door locks on its own.... Thats when I decided to put am at the top of the list.

What a sad reason to hate the model of car. That is an unfortunate incident, yes, but that doesnt mean that all Grand Am's are going to do that; you cant just stereotype a all models because of what happened to you in the one you were driving.

Oh I forgot to say that this happened in the fast lane of a 3 lane street. At night and raining.

Dude its not about the incident its about the whole design. The door locks everytime u close it. The seat belts on the door. The whole dashboard shakes when u turn on the AC and more.....

Well, in that case, just because there's something that you dont like about the car doesnt mean it sucks. Besides, there are newer Grand Am's that are good cars.

If you are asking if I would pick a Grand Am, I will tell you that not until their performance improves or if I become retarded...
I didn't mean to be disliking them, but at least, I wouldn't pay for a 3.4 V6 with less than 200 ponies pulling it...
The Hyundai Tiburon gives out the same horsepower but with smaller engine...

I just said I hated it and asked for opinios. Whether Grand am sucks or not is not a fact some people like them like this dude:

I think he has done a great job modifying the car I hate.

The whole cheap interior thing is one of the reasons that the grand am and cavalier are being killed off. Other than that tho they are an ok car.

Okay guyz I drove this Grand am 2000 GT and it wasn't that bad so I must admit its only the 95 series with the funny front that suck.

The newer 3800 GT RAM AIR Grand Ams are quite appealing, even though their pretty damn slow. And the damn weather stripping keeps falling off my aunts 01 GT.

You are right about the belts on the doors design, though GM used it as a poor way to get around early airbag laws, where cars either needed airbags or passice restraints. They came up with a design that was less safe than a normal seatbelt.
Back in 1988, I deliberatly did NOT buy a Buick Lesabre, specifically because of this feature.

The newer Grand Am's aren't that bad...Except around 15,000 miles when you need to have an intake job done on them...

Although i must say, they seem to appeal more to the female crowds than the male crowds. I'm not saying it's a chick car, but the mojority of newer Grand Am drivers seem to be women.
