Camaro overheating

i have a 1986 camaro with a V8 305, It all started when my upper radiator hose blew so i replaced it and added engine coolant yet my car still seems to overheat, it runs fine but it is still running around 200 when it was running at 160 or lower before. if anyone has any suggestions on what i should do id appriciate it. Also if anyone knows a good website for a engine diagram for this kind of car i need one because while in the process of replacing my radiator hose i discovered that i have a hose lose and i have no idea what its purpose is. I had one guy tell me that it was part of a air polution part but, all i know is that it is located next to where the upper radiator hose connects to the engine other than that i have no idea. i appreciate any help that anyone can give me

did you replace the thermostat when you repleaced the upper hose? maybe there was a coolant additive, like 40 below or something in the coolant and when the old stuff left, so did the additive. i think 200 is around normal for the car, so 160 would have me scratching my head. as far as the extra hose, its late, and im going to bed, but ill get back to ya tomorrow on that one. ill look at my 89's and in the shop manual to see what i can find for ya.

200 is kinda high, unless you have a low temp thermo and a chip to make it practical 180 should be normal.

wha? um, low temp thermo drops the temp, it wouldnt be 200 anymore. and yeah, 200 is normal. the stock thermostat is 215 degrees. or 210 something like that. 180 is an aftermarket temp level. if it were running that cool, it would void warrante because of the non stock running gear. well, back in 86 anyway :) i know my RS runs in excess of 200 all the time. thats just where she runs. the IROC runs cooler, around 180 but i have NO clue what has been done to her before i got her. so she might have an aftermarket thermostat in her.

Well I doubt any 3rd gen is still under warranty...
My Firechicken ran at 205 to 210 I hate it. scares me.
I swaped my radiator( was going bad) and thermo to 180 and got the new switch fan relay from Summit and man what a difference.
I'd say steady pretty steady at about 190

mine used to hit 220 before the electric fan kicked it, but then the relay kept blowing, and the temp sensor, and the fan motor, so i just wired up a manual switch which i turn on around 210-220 where it would kick on normally.

Wow, looked in my book, and I was wrong. holey sheet man. LOL Well, yeah I had a thermo master chip in my car before the monster mod and I ran a 160 degree thermo. I didn't think 200 sounded right. That's kinda hot. I like lotsa revs, but I like a cooler running engine too.

its all about emissions man, higher temp is bad for performance (detonation) but its better for the local smog check. thats why the factory setting is so high.

Oh yeah I forgot, you guys have emissions. Sorry bout your luck. LOL J/K

I have a 1990 IROC-Z. I had a problem with my car running cool at cruising speeds but as soon as i was stopped at a light or whatever, it would jump up fast and bring the fans on. I had my water pump go out on me just recently. I replaced it and now it stays cooler longer. I also flushed my coolant system. It will still get hot at idle, but it takes much longer now.

the f-bodies have always had problems with stand-still cooling, cause of how the air has to flow to get to the radiator. i just hooked up a manual switch to my fan and flip it on whenever i see the temp goin up.
