I have a 98 grand cherokee. The reverse lights no longer work (it is not the bulbs). I have read that the neutral safety switch can get gunked up and that the circuit to the reverse lights goes through the switch. Removing and cleaning it should fix the problem... but where is the neutral safety switch located on the 98 gr. cherokee? Diagrams/pics would be very helpful. Thanks.

It is located on the passenger side of the transmission under the veh. There is one nut to get it off.

I've been under my car a couple of times looking for this.. I've got a '97 RHD Grand Cherokee.. coudl you tell me where to find the Neutral Safety Switch exactly? is it above/below, on the side, above or below the ridge of the transmission? Can it be seen or do you have to feel around for it?

on the 42RE/42RH/46RH transmissions (I am sure it is the same for all other trannies too). The Park/Nuetral or Nuetral Safety Switch is located on the Passenger side of the transmission right above the OIL PAN the is a (I do believe) a 3 wire electrical connector.

Thanks, Another silly question.. is it the bit above the oil pan under the hidden behind the exhaust piping and around all the spring parts for the gears (automotives aren't my thing.. hopefully, when I get it off it's easier to do the clean!!)

I cleaned the NSS on my 93 Jeep GC for the reverse light problem, but it did not help, though the NSS was definitely gunked up.

I have the same problem on the 93 Grand Cherokee. I replaced the park neutral safety switch and it worked for a while and sure enough no reverse lights. I believe the rod on the left (driver's side) on the transmission can be adjusted for the switch. The rod goes through the transmission and through the park neutral safety switch. I haven't tried to adjust it yet, but if it works I will update

I have a 98 5.9L and I had a problem with my speed sensor. I went out and thought i had bought the speed sensor and it was in fact the park/neutral switch. Both are located, and look the same, right were the transfer case and the tranny connect.
