Resonator

I was wondering which is better, right now I can only afford to either get a new powertech muffler or get the resonator removed. I'm really going for sound and have really no idea if removing the resonator will make a big difference or not and if it will sound good or if I should just get the muffler first. If it is worth my time and money to have the resonator removed over a new muffler, please let me know. Also I have heard that the only way to get a better sound is with both removing the resonator and getting a new muffler, is this true. Any responses would be much appreciated. Thanks.
By the way I have a 1992 SE bonneville.
