86 BMW fuel filterfluharty 11-29-2003, 10:44 PM Alright guys, here's the deal, we're working on my car, dad thinks that the fuel pump or fuel filter are malfunctioning currently. so i can't find anything that tells me where the fuel filter is...is it in the gas tank? or along the line somewhere, dad's never worked on a foreign car....we've already replaced the dist. cap and rotor button (which by the way blew up...does that happen!?) and the fuel pressure regulator isn't shooting out any fuel so its just not starting can someone help a girl out please? KC Ron Carter 11-30-2003, 12:17 AM BMW uses some different controls for the fuel systems. I would suggest that you need to bypass the relays to see if the pumps work. I would suggest this before going on a filter changing. On the fuel pump relay, short from pin #30 to #87. Out side the fuse box are three relays. they can be moved to different locations. The only way to know is to check the wire colors. The five prong is the main relay RD RD/WT GN BR BL/RD Fuel pump relay RD RD/WT GN/VI BR/GN o2 sensor heater relay GN/VI GN/YL GY/BR GN/BU http://members.roadfly.com/kcroncarter/etm116.htm http://members.roadfly.com/kcroncarter/bmwetm116.jpg http://members.roadfly.com/kcroncarter/etm117.htm http://members.roadfly.com/kcroncarter/bmwetm117.jpg Later, fluharty 12-07-2003, 11:52 AM well that didn't work, the relay is fine, i checked it it was okay i replaced it just in case, i'm still not getting fuel through the engine, so i guess now after replacing the distributor cap and rotor button and the relay that its on to fuel filter and fuel pump, it anyone knows about where this is or where a diagram is so i can even find the fuel pump and filter i'd be very thankful.... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
