Basically my mom's car. This didn't come out in the U.S., so I might as well post it here for people to see what a Honda City looks like. This is the previous version; a new model came out this year. The 1999 Type Z is non VTEC; the VTEC model came out a year later after this.

Someone already did. A member of Honda Club Philippines already put a turbo on his City Type Z, and other City owners have also modified their rides as well.

The eingine is a detuned D15, as far as I know. And yes, it is quite surprising that people take the time to modify even the City, but then again another member of Honda Club Philippines modified his 1200 EG Civic, which is very slow.

why bother? on a honda city? i drove one of those (grew up in the phils) and its really slow. i dont think it would be worth it modifying those cars. why not the Si-R? i know that they are sold in the phils...seen so many around when i was back there.

Power-to-weight ratio of the VTEC Type Z is equal to that of the SiR here, according to Honda Philippines. So it's no wonder people are modifying the City. They are actually light, and put in mods or an engine swap, can kill an SiR.

but i thought that the city just had the ordinary non vtec engine that was i think 1.4L or 1.5L? dont ya think it would be better to just get the Si-R and modify it since it has more potential? well then again...you know how it is in the phils, its almost a luxury to have a car.

The City first came out as a 1300, then later as a 1500 and the Type Z, which has a few more features as that of the ordinary 1500. The early 1500 is non VTEC. In 2000 Honda Philippines released the VTEC Type Z. Why are people buying and modifying the City? Well, more people bought the City, for one. And the SiR only came out here as a "special" limited edition, so there are relatively few SiR as compared to City.

think the city is A LOT cheaper too. but ive seen a lot when i was in college in baguio. i never asked one of those guys what the engine of those were...do you know what the engines of the Si-R are there? i know the ESi are 1.6L.

Engine of the SiR here is a detuned JDM B16 engine. The Honda ESi--my car--has a PH16 engine, a variation of the D16 engine. The PH16 is a detuned JDM D16, you might say. The EK models, except the SiR, have a variation of the D series engine.

i never tried driving the ESi before. how much power does it have...stock that is? what about the Si-R? how much power does it have stock? where do you race there? streets?

ESi has 125hp stock, the SiR here is 160hp stock. Legal circuit races are at Subic and Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). Illegal races are at Libis, Ortigas, Marcos Highway and at Caltex Alabang. There will be a legal drag race sponsored by the Philippine Drag Racers Federation (PDRF) on December 6 over at Macapagal Avenue near Manila Bay.
Check out also the City owners' thread at Honda Club Philippines: http://forum.hondaclub.com.ph/index.php?board=5;action=display;threadid=3387 SX8 is the body code of the City, much like the ESi is the EG Civic. Ask around for Toten's turboed City there. :iceslolan

You must be thinking of Marcos Highway going up to Baguio. That's not the one. It's Marcos Highway going to Antipolo. It's around at the Marikina area, I think. People hang out around Shell there, on Friday and Saturday.

I've heard of something going about high and low 13s, and up to low 12s even. There's one that my friend said is a Civic SiR that goes all the way to high 11s. Of course, there are already 10 second Evos here, something that not even people in the U.S. were able to do.

10 secs? i think the reason why they arent able to do those times in the US is coz of the emissions...they are so strict with the emissions in the US. they want to make the cars as a daily driven car too. not like you know where...can always talk your way out of it.

We're lucky here. Mods that won't pass in the U.S. are used on the streets here daily.

that should be a reason why you say they can easily run those times. the mods dont have to pass through the standards of the emissions there.

Toyota Echo--that atrocious-looking thing that's even more horrid than the new Honda City. It is nice for city driving, though. Nice to meet fellow Filipinos here as well.
