Progress thread: Ferrari 360 Challenge StradaleVeyron 11-27-2003, 06:09 PM Just got the SAS Stradale transkit, of course I had to start this one right away! There is so much difference in the stock 360 and the Stradale, Tamiya would have to retool nearly every part and tool some new parts to make a kit, I don't see that happening. I have attached the SAS parts and have begun shaping the nuances in the Stradale body work, including the more pronounced spoiler on the engine cover. The wheel openings are slightly enclosed also, so putty was added to shape that feature. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra1.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra2.JPG In the next two pics you can see how the spoiler is integrated, and the added plastic to the lower rear quarters of the body, the Stradale has more of a straight cut across the lower rear valence. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra3.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra4.JPG Acu Stion's decals, seats and Stradale etch set will be added along with the Museum Collection Challenge wheels. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra5.JPG No way I'm going to take the time to exactly replicate the Stradale, I'm going to do the body, color scheme, side windows, wheels and rear diffuser. I might modify the console, but I'm not building door panels. A Revell Enzo Steering wheel will be used. There is a lot different in the engine bay too, I may do some minor changes as long as it's very visible. flyonthewall 11-27-2003, 06:23 PM Great start Brian. I shall be keeping a close eye on procedings. Zcaithaca 11-27-2003, 06:56 PM hey is that the regular 360 kit from tamiya with the stradale parts SonyMobile 11-27-2003, 06:57 PM Cool, Im not much for farraries (cant even spell it :screwy: ) but this should be an amazing build, and verry interesting. what you have done so far is very imrpessive, even though you just put a kit on, and added small dabs of putty, its still extremely impressive to me because you have a very good eye for detail and you have probably done hours upon hours of reaserch on this vehicle, Best of luck to you on this challenging build, cant wait to see some more progress. :) chrismcgee 11-27-2003, 07:02 PM oh dear, it seems im gonna have to be buying this kit now! sas are doing some great products and combined with the decals and those great wheels its just gonna look excellent. what wheels does the car come with as standard? pflau 11-27-2003, 07:50 PM hey Im building the 360 spider.. we can compare notes!!! why did you put the body panels together this early?? Im painting the panels individually and I'll put them together at the end. Midnight Racer 11-27-2003, 08:10 PM Your off to a great start. Can't wait to see more. fola 11-27-2003, 08:19 PM Nice start, I am waiting for Chris to send me my Transkit so that I can get started with the stradale slotcar...... I posted some pics, check them out , let me know what you think. Fola blueboost 11-27-2003, 08:51 PM you have ALL the goodies. this is gonna be good! Veyron 11-28-2003, 12:32 AM hey Im building the 360 spider.. we can compare notes!!! why did you put the body panels together this early?? Im painting the panels individually and I'll put them together at the end. I've already built two Modena's and putting the panels on before painting worked best for me. :) Veyron 11-28-2003, 12:33 AM hey is that the regular 360 kit from tamiya with the stradale parts Yes. Valentino 11-28-2003, 12:35 PM So far so good. can't wait to see more. :smokin: 86_SR5 11-28-2003, 12:38 PM nice, what color is it going to be? that yellow looks good. Veyron 11-28-2003, 06:24 PM Got first coats of primer on, now I've got to clean up some panel lines and do some spot puttying. http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra6-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra7.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/502/40503stra8.JPG 86_SR5 11-28-2003, 09:01 PM car looks fine with just primer on it, what color you going to paint it? Zturbo 11-28-2003, 11:20 PM very very very niceeeeeee!!!!!!!! bigfrit 11-29-2003, 06:10 AM Hm, didn't know there were so much differerences between the two cars, but you're sure doing another great work! Keep up the more then excellent build! Olivier kunta 11-29-2003, 09:35 AM Remarkable project is going on by remarkable modeler! Veyron 11-29-2003, 04:18 PM car looks fine with just primer on it, what color you going to paint it? Thanks all! I have friends that are painting theirs yellow, green and red, so mine will probably be black. The official colors for the Stradale seem to be silver, yellow, black, red and metallic blue. slk320 11-29-2003, 04:37 PM Looks like a very interesting project. I will follow it along with high hopes! I have the SAS kit, haven't started it yet. 360spider 11-29-2003, 06:24 PM Brian, looks great, but I think the rear spoiler is WAY too big, and too tall. If you look at the pictures, its only slightly bigger on the real car, maybe 1 3/4 as thick as on the original Modena. Yours looks too big. I know its probably too late to do anything about it though. :-) Great work so far! here is my version: http://italianhorses.net/New/CS.htm Veyron 11-29-2003, 08:46 PM Thanks, Alex. The spoiler is a little shorter now, still taller than the real one but I kind of like the way it looks. I think the body mods that I have done are slightly more exaggerated, I took a little artistic license to increase the aggressive persona of the Stradale. I also noticed the license plate recess is different than the stock Modena, I didn't bother changing that. Yours is looking really nice, and I like that you used the TS 49, I love that bright red! fola 12-08-2003, 03:29 PM The MSM kit is pretty cool, I got the SAS kit (Front bumper and side skirts) And a few days later got the MSM version which ís a little more complete. The MSM bumper is IMHO a bit better ( beefier) and the Rear Hatch is pretty cool too. I started my 360cs project yesterday, here are a few shots.... http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_23-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_29-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_31.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_36-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_49.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_48-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/115830360_cs_55-med.JPG TireGaint 12-09-2003, 12:23 AM wow cant wait to put my order!!!!!!!!!!!! Veyron 12-09-2003, 09:49 AM This could be fun! Everyone that is building a Stradale post their progress in my thread, it would be interesting to have all the techniques, approaches to the build, and comments in one thread. I have been modifying the Renaissance 360GT wheel to replicate the Stradale wheel. It has to be converted from a single axle nut configuration to a five lug type. Also, the spokes on the Renaissance wheel curved outward too much so I sanded them flatter, and they are too deep from front to back so I began thinning them from the back with a Dremel tool. The Renaissance wheel is larger in diameter than the Museum Collection Challenge wheel that everyone including MSM is making resin copies of. The front tyres from the Tamiya Enzo are perfect fro the Renaissance wheel and the Stradale because that car has very low profile tyres. http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/wheelconvert1.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/wheelconvert2.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/wheelconvert3.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/strawheel1.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/stranew19.jpg Getting closer to the painting process, since it's going to be black, things need to be very tidy. http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/strafrontangle.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/strarearangle.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/straback1.JPG http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/stramock1.JPG vwman 12-09-2003, 10:04 AM That is Reeeaalllly HOT !!!! :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :smokin: Veyron 12-09-2003, 07:11 PM After recieving the MSM transkit myself, I can tell you that they repopped Museum Collection's wheel, then modified the spokes, essentially deepening the cuts torward the center to replicate the Stradale wheel. They also narrowed them to fit the stock Tamiya Modena tyres, Museum Collection made theirs wide to fit Tamiya racing slicks. The MSM wheel looks great but diameter is too small for Stradale. The MSM seats are much nicer than Acu Stions. The cooling scoops in front of the front wheel openings on the front bumper part, are not as accurate as the SAS front bumper scoops. The Acu Stion decals are more complete including all Stradale emblems and gauge faces. The stripes on the Stradale are suppose to be the same width as the Ferrari emblem on the 360 engine cover, MSM's are a little too wide and Acu's are about right. MSM's stripes seem to be more opaque but a little less quality regarding the little green and red stripe. Any lack of opaqueness can be remedied by cutting some plain white decal to put under them. MSM's work is good overall. The interior parts, body parts and decals are very nice. The supplied exhaust tips are not impressive though, seem too small. fola 12-09-2003, 08:54 PM so, painted, clear will be appleid in a few days. I will use the msm wheels, they are just fine.... in size too, the rear hatch will get the PE grills by acustion so i cut out the yellow backing the rear spoiler is a bitch to shape! the msm one is actuaalyperfect coz the spoiler and the holes are already shaped . I decided to rework the original sills because both after market versions where too narrow, not deep enough, the 360gtc is KILLER!! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1158300729200315471218_1_.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/115830DSC09995-med.JPG http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/1158300729200315471541_1_.jpg http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/503/115830DSC00002-med.JPG Veyron 12-09-2003, 09:23 PM I like those in silver, it's going to look great! Thanks for the post. Mine will be like this: http://www.infinite1der.org/~dino/blackstra1.JPG TireGaint 12-09-2003, 11:18 PM so, painted, clear will be appleid in a few days.
