Could anyone recommend a first step for tuning up a 1990 accord ex. I would like to try to work on it from the inside out.

Depends on how much you want to spend. From inside out do you mean from internal motor parts? I believe alot of internal mods won't make as big of a difference without first increasing the air intake and improving the exhaust system.

One of least expensive mod that'll get you more hp is a Cold Air Intake. It won't increase torque until your RPM's are in the 3000 + range, it'll also increase the noise.

You'll get a little more power to the wheels with different pulleys for the power steering and alt such as AEM pulleys.

Next step would be to modify the exhaust system, then look at a different throttle body or bore yours out.

There are other mods but it all depends on budget and what you want your car to do or what you want. Figure out what you want to do, develop a budget, research, then go for it.

Good luck.

Ok thanks for the advice. Do you think it wise to buy a turbo kit?

I'm still learning, but a turbo kit could cost (3500-6000 Cdn$) quite a bit. If you run over say 6lbs of boost then you would need to do other mods. I've heard of guys robbing the turbo's from other cars and adding them (alot less $).

A guy I work with figures modifying the intake manifold and adding a 35 - 50 NOS kit would do wonders without destroying anything. In my $ and for my car 91 exr, would cost somewhere around $1000.00 for the nos kit. If you're boosting more than 50 say 75 or 100hp you risk shortening the motor's life, and wrecking other stuff.

Yeah i've researched the affects NOS kits have on the motor. 1 of my friend has about a 35-50 NOS kit on his 93 civic and my other friend has a 75-100 kit, and his engine is warped.
