Tribute to my past GTX; but this one is more badass.CamaroSSBoy346 11-25-2003, 07:43 PM As many of you know, my 71 GTX bit the dust. I put it away, and in a couple of years when im going through all my boxes im gonna open that up and say "holy shit" and end up rebuilding it (doesnt that always happen?) So, heres my other mopar. The only thing im not too sure about is the engine? (It has the shaker hood scoop leading me to belive its a Hemi, but it doesnt have the Hemi style valve covers; leading me to belive its a 318, 340, 360,or even a 440. But just for shits and giggle i might swap out the current engine for a 340 (I doubt its a really a 340, but not sure) just to have a one of a kind AMT Challenger. As concerning quality issues; this is an older re-released kit called the "Dixie Challenger" but i think it was first introduced in the early 90's. Only inaccuracy i can note is the front facia. In the pic theres a body line right below the front marker. I dont think thats supposed to be there, and if it really is a Hemi i think it has incorrect valve covers. Only progres.. http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_149_full.jpg Wheels: American Racing Torq Thrusts Tires: P245/50 ZR16 Goodyeaer Eagle GS-C's EMAXX 11-25-2003, 07:47 PM Looking good so far. Hopefully this one doesn't meet the kitchen floor. Keep us posted. 86_SR5 11-25-2003, 07:52 PM Looking good so far. Hopefully this one doesn't eat the kitchen floor. Keep us posted. :cwm27: Looks good mike, it'a probaly a 340. CamaroSSBoy346 11-25-2003, 07:59 PM Shit.. a 340.. o well. I might throw in a slant 6, just for shits and giggles. Actually theirs another challenger with a slant 6. It was featured in a year or 2 old SAE Contest mag. CamaroSSBoy346 11-25-2003, 08:06 PM They dont call it a "slant" for anything. The OEM 3 Speed AOD is still in the orgional car (Lindberg 330 Polara; on a side note; IF ANYONE HAS THIS KIT AND IS SELLING IT PLEASE TELL ME!). I also have the 383 from this kit laying around some where.. (Yes; it came with a choice of 2 engines) http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_150_full.jpg As you can see the slant 6 has seen better days. 86_SR5 11-25-2003, 08:26 PM Mike, My LHS carries the dodge 330, it's blue on the box, like 7bux tops. CamaroSSBoy346 11-25-2003, 09:10 PM yeah, sky blueish, thats the one i started with. The dog dishes are great for challengers. But anyways, heres what ive done.. http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_151_full.jpg 86_SR5 11-25-2003, 09:15 PM 6pack on a 340? CamaroSSBoy346 11-25-2003, 09:18 PM maybe its not really a 340... maybe a 440..? 86_SR5 11-25-2003, 09:27 PM okay, here's how to tell: what degree do the heads look like they're on? the 34 had more angled heads than the 440, that's how I could tell them apart. tanner07 11-25-2003, 10:55 PM If it has the shaker hood, it's either a Hemi that the didn't put on the right valve covers, or a 440. The Shaker hood only came on the RT's (standard on the Hemi, optional on the 440), and the RT's only came with either the 440 or Hemi. Purpura Delujo 11-25-2003, 11:05 PM 6pack on a 340? T/A Challengers had that engine, nothing wrong with it... CamaroSSBoy346 11-26-2003, 08:22 PM UPDATE: Not much done today, except test fit the air shaker hood scoop. Looks all good. http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_152_full.jpg 86_SR5 11-26-2003, 08:31 PM Your not gona do the shaker flat black?? CamaroSSBoy346 11-26-2003, 09:00 PM No, the shaker is the body color... just check out http://www.corvettes-musclecars.com/mopar/70RTConvertible/ 86_SR5 11-26-2003, 09:30 PM no joke huh? Looks cool anywho. Mike, when you gonna build a street performance truck (Ram VTS) for your trailer queen moaprs? CamaroSSBoy346 11-26-2003, 10:13 PM update: Did everything in BMF except doorhandle, gascap, and fenders. This is my first time with BMF so it isnt perfect. http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/10/web/370000-370999/370008_153_full.jpg FYI its burnished aluminum. CamaroSSBoy346 11-26-2003, 10:14 PM i plan on getting the VTS for christmas maybe (my local craft store has it) then order a perry's resin 4x4 conversion kit for it. 86_SR5 11-26-2003, 10:46 PM ahhhh. Why don't you just build it to haul ass on the streets, not fling up mud? :screwy: supramike420 11-27-2003, 10:30 AM some people like to fling up mud 86_SR5 11-27-2003, 01:42 PM Yeah, when I had my SS, and would go out to my cousins house in cutoff, usually it was wet, and he had a dirt road to his house (muddy, all the time). I admit, turn down the road, slow down a little, and nail the accelerator and muf would fly everywhere, that was pretty cool, but it was even better when I cleaned em off and smoked em on the stree.t CamaroSSBoy346 11-27-2003, 01:56 PM yeah, living on 10 acres of field and having a factory equipped NP205 F-150 with a 351 is prett fun. BTW i took off the BMF and repainted it with plasti cote chrome (paint for the bumpers) 86_SR5 11-27-2003, 02:02 PM Mike, I have some Krylon chrome, Dupli-Color chrome, the dupli looks a little clearer, how's the plasti kote? CamaroSSBoy346 11-27-2003, 03:04 PM well... you cant tell the difference between the BMF and the paint. EMAXX 11-28-2003, 03:29 PM Looking good so far. Looks like once you guys start talking about cars, it never ends. lol 86_SR5 11-28-2003, 04:22 PM mike, what do you use to mask off for your window trim? CamaroSSBoy346 11-28-2003, 05:21 PM 3M Masking tape. I'll get some updated pics in a second. Unfortunatly the chrome paint isnt as rich; because i clear coated it (dont clear coat chrome paint!) ONEBADMK8 11-28-2003, 05:50 PM 6pack on a 340? Yes Sir. In 1971, the 340 came with the J heads and 2.20/1.60 valves. Then in 1971 saw the introduction of the "360 style" J head, they used the same casting for 1971 340s and 360s, with different machining for the different sized valves. The 360 head actually saw first limited use in the 1970 340 Six-Pack AAR/TA, which also had 2.20/1.60 machined heads. The 340 was offered in a "Six-Pak" NOT 6-Pack(as most people mistake) Configuration. You could order a 340 R/T look-alike with a shaker (Hemi Look) and a go-wing, and most of the R/T paraphernalia, without the higher insurance premiums. ONEBADMK8 11-28-2003, 05:57 PM okay, here's how to tell: what degree do the heads look like they're on? the 34 had more angled heads than the 440, that's how I could tell them apart. 340=small block, distributor stands straight up in rear, like a chevy. 440=big block disributor is in front angled to the passenger side. ONEBADMK8 11-28-2003, 06:03 PM If it has the shaker hood, it's either a Hemi that the didn't put on the right valve covers, or a 440. The Shaker hood only came on the RT's (standard on the Hemi, optional on the 440), and the RT's only came with either the 440 or Hemi. Not true, the Challenger R/T offered 340, 383, 440, 440+6 as well as he Hemi. CamaroSSBoy346 11-28-2003, 06:44 PM Damn. I think we all got schooled on mopar history. lol CamaroSSBoy346 11-28-2003, 06:47 PM Speekling of Fords (clicked MK8's link) I might be picking up myself a '92 Mustang LX. Its got a 5.0 HO, drag racing automatic style shifter, full Auto Meter gauges, Ford Racing dash mounted tach, and flowmaster exhaust. $3200.. 86_SR5 11-28-2003, 09:07 PM mike, you have too much money and too many cars! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
