As many of you know, my 71 GTX bit the dust. I put it away, and in a couple of years when im going through all my boxes im gonna open that up and say "holy shit" and end up rebuilding it (doesnt that always happen?) So, heres my other mopar. The only thing im not too sure about is the engine? (It has the shaker hood scoop leading me to belive its a Hemi, but it doesnt have the Hemi style valve covers; leading me to belive its a 318, 340, 360,or even a 440. But just for shits and giggle i might swap out the current engine for a 340 (I doubt its a really a 340, but not sure) just to have a one of a kind AMT Challenger. As concerning quality issues; this is an older re-released kit called the "Dixie Challenger" but i think it was first introduced in the early 90's. Only inaccuracy i can note is the front facia. In the pic theres a body line right below the front marker. I dont think thats supposed to be there, and if it really is a Hemi i think it has incorrect valve covers.

Shit.. a 340.. o well. I might throw in a slant 6, just for shits and giggles. Actually theirs another challenger with a slant 6. It was featured in a year or 2 old SAE Contest mag.

They dont call it a "slant" for anything. The OEM 3 Speed AOD is still in the orgional car (Lindberg 330 Polara; on a side note; IF ANYONE HAS THIS KIT AND IS SELLING IT PLEASE TELL ME!). I also have the 383 from this kit laying around some where.. (Yes; it came with a choice of 2 engines)

okay, here's how to tell: what degree do the heads look like they're on? the 34 had more angled heads than the 440, that's how I could tell them apart.

If it has the shaker hood, it's either a Hemi that the didn't put on the right valve covers, or a 440. The Shaker hood only came on the RT's (standard on the Hemi, optional on the 440), and the RT's only came with either the 440 or Hemi.

update: Did everything in BMF except doorhandle, gascap, and fenders. This is my first time with BMF so it isnt perfect.

i plan on getting the VTS for christmas maybe (my local craft store has it) then order a perry's resin 4x4 conversion kit for it.

Yeah, when I had my SS, and would go out to my cousins house in cutoff, usually it was wet, and he had a dirt road to his house (muddy, all the time). I admit, turn down the road, slow down a little, and nail the accelerator and muf would fly everywhere, that was pretty cool, but it was even better when I cleaned em off and smoked em on the stree.t

yeah, living on 10 acres of field and having a factory equipped NP205 F-150 with a 351 is prett fun.

BTW i took off the BMF and repainted it with plasti cote chrome (paint for the bumpers)

3M Masking tape. I'll get some updated pics in a second. Unfortunatly the chrome paint isnt as rich; because i clear coated it (dont clear coat chrome paint!)

In 1971, the 340 came with the J heads and 2.20/1.60 valves. Then in 1971 saw the introduction of the "360 style" J head, they used the same casting for 1971 340s and 360s, with different machining for the different sized valves.
The 360 head actually saw first limited use in the 1970 340 Six-Pack AAR/TA, which also had 2.20/1.60 machined heads.

The 340 was offered in a "Six-Pak" NOT 6-Pack(as most people mistake) Configuration. You could order a 340 R/T look-alike with a shaker (Hemi Look) and a go-wing, and most of the R/T paraphernalia, without the higher insurance premiums.

340=small block, distributor stands straight up in rear, like a chevy.

440=big block disributor is in front angled to the passenger side.

Not true, the Challenger R/T offered 340, 383, 440, 440+6 as well as he Hemi.

Speekling of Fords (clicked MK8's link) I might be picking up myself a '92 Mustang LX. Its got a 5.0 HO, drag racing automatic style shifter, full Auto Meter gauges, Ford Racing dash mounted tach, and flowmaster exhaust. $3200..
