if you were to get a car for under 3000 that has good reliablity, good gas mileage, decent 1/4 mile times, and good handling, what would you get? keep all these in mind, cause i dont want to end up replacing turbos, or turbo manidfolds. if i were to get the crx, integra, or 240 for like under 1000, then i would probably do an engine swap. any other cars that you can think of that fits this description?

not being bias but personally i'd pick the crx b/c the aftermarket support for it is huge.....and i think itz going to be that way for a while, and replacement parts are abundant and in most cases cheap....not to mention u have a variety of cars to get parts from

Personally, for that price, I would go with a turbo Dodge or a turbo Chrysler like a Daytona Turbo & Iroc R/T, Laser, LeBaron GTC, Omni GLH & GLHS, Shelby CSX, or a Spirit R/T. Most of these can be found for $3,000 and under in very nice condition, if you can find them. They all get good gas mileage, they have good power, very fast in the straight, they can also hold their own on the track, and they are very reliable. My 1989 LeBaron GTC lasted 152,000 miles with no major repairs just the usual stuff. Still was running the stock turbo at 13PSI. The only reason it isn't running now is because it was totaled in an accident.

If one of those doesn't spark your interest then the CRX, Integra, and 240SX would all be great picks with excellent aftermarket support and all would be fairly reliable.

I would say 240sx. you can still get them for fairly cheap now(though, with them being the new "it" car it this may change soon..). 2700bl~ RWD. and the engines inside them are not bad at all dispite what the magazines say!!!! almost 1/4th more displacement then the popular(and very pricey SR20det). I have heard a few ppl got nice hp/tq numbers from the NA KA's but dont remember any numbers. IIRC the s13 KA's are 8.5:1 compression and they have forged crank and rods so its close to set for FI applications.(if someone can confirm or correct me on this I would appriciate it :) ) that is, if you want to do the hole turbo thing in the future.. If I go the 240sx route I plan on turbocharging the KA engine. :smokin:

next bet would be the CRX though for the reasons listed above. I am not sure of what people have done with the stock engine though... My only complaint about it is its FWD but if you live in a place that snows/rains allot it is probly prefured.

an mk1 mr2 may be worth looking at too.
