I'm new here and have a few questions. What is available for a full size replica Countach kit. I've always been interested in these, but would want to build one with an 8 cylinder and full scale. Any info or links are greatly appreciated. Any do's or don'ts about these things I should look out for? Thanks!

I think replicas are sacrilege!
A V8? ? ? ? ?

Have you heard a Countach ? It sounds like a screaming tearing noise, very angry, but very smooth sound. V8s are lumpy and bassy!

I think its really funny here in England, you see a nice 427 Cobra, then they fire it up and it has a 1600cc Ford Escort engine! If you must have a kit car, then at least put a Jaguar V12 in.

I have one but all my pictures seem to be getting the red X today. I'll try to post some later.

-FROG- : I must say that your replica is very very identical to the original countach man. Where did you get it done and what's in the hood?

Mad props man!! :grinno:

I understand the need for accuracy in a replica. You CAN do some exhaust work and get a V8 to sound similar, but yes - it will never sound like a 12.

From a performance standpoint - the Jag V12 is rather underpowered, and takes some expensive mods to get it to a good power level.

Most of us who do replicas do it because we absolutely LOVE the Countach - more than any other car, but we will never be able to afford the "real" luxury of ownership.

I personally feel that that's it's nothing less than flattery of an automotive marque when someone's willing to work hard to re-create a replica version of the real thing.

Here in the states, the most accurate Countach kit I've seen is called the "Mirage S" from Euro-works. They're based in Dayton, Ohio.

YEP! Thats exactly the one I have too. I only have a V6 powering mine but as light as it is and I have a few mods on it, so it runs about like a Mustang GT. Deffinately fast and fun enough to play with. With the mid engine placement and general physics of the car, it handles like nothing I have driven before. Very fun car for not being able to afford a real C/T.

Why built a replica? Is a real Countach so much more expensive to buy? I'd understand if we were talking about a Murci replica which still cost a lot. You can get well maintained Countachs in Europe for 50000 euros. WTF?

No kidding.... LOL. Do some research man before you start talking. Don't forget to average $2.50 per mile for maintenance.

Why built a replica? Is a real Countach so much more expensive to buy? You can get well maintained Countachs in Europe for 50000 euros.

In US dollars, most real Countaches are going to run about 60,000 dollars for a good condition 400 / 500s. The QV and 25th models are easily going to run about 75,000.

You can sometimes find cheaper examples out there, but a 35 - 45,000 dollar countach can easily require 12 - 15,000 more dollars in parts just to get it running. Add in labor (unless you can wrench) and you're back at 60 - 70,000 again.

Honestly, most quality kits - the kind with the proper wheelbase, good suspension system and a well-performing motor can be done for around 25 - 30,000 dollars. The ones that are more expensive than that are usually done by professional kit builders / sold as turnkey, rather than homebuilt.

I would love to get a real Countach. But when you combine my location (no worthy mechanic within 500 miles), the cost of lambo parts, reliability, along with the insurance - it doesn't make sense to make that kind of investment. Also, a lot of people want to put some miles on a car, and the maintenance requirements of a real lambo makes that too pricey.

Kit cars are really designed for people who have many different hobbies / interests, or simply don't have the annual income to afford such a lofty purchase price. For many people, even 10,000 dollars in "luxury" money can be hard to come by.

Believe me when I say that the replica countach owners have nothing but love and respect for the real car - I feel it borders on obsession for some. That's why they're willing to sacrifice their time, labor and what they can afford with money to at least have a "similar beast" to drive.

I know there's a lot of true lambo owners that have big issues over kit cars. But kit cars have not reduced the values of the real ones, and in a way, make a true lambo even more exotic. I guess my concern is that I'm beginning to see more and more lambo owners becoming snobbish, with elitist thinking that I feel should be nothing less than outlawed. It's a trait that I'm VERY ashamed to see in humanity.

Very well put! Although, you wouldn't believe how many people with money / exotic owners, ask me about replicas because they are looking to buy one, simple because they want to enjoy driving one. Eben people that can afford a real one, sometimes gain interest in replicas becaus eof low maintainence and other costs. Also, I have heard alot of bad things about the real ones, just being too uncomfortable with the pedals and such. Replicas can be custom made for comfort.

You can buy one all done up already, for less tahn it would cost you to build from the ground up. I saw one on Ebay, just a little while ago. The thing is built ona tube steel chassis, and very high tech, and probably the most acurate car I've seen in quite a while. You cannot tell, when looking from the outside, that it's even a replica. It can be had, for something like $29,000 USD. It's a white 25th Ann. car also. Looks pretty good, if you are willing to bother with replica, in the first place.

Hi, I'm new here too and I am currently building a Countach Replica with a Toyota lexus V8 and Audi gearbox. I am using some original parts such as the tail lights, all windows including windscreen and rims. I have compared it to an original and its exstremely close if not exact. I am experiancing problems getting seats as even without seats there is no head space. I have made contact with a few other builders in South Africa that are busy with the same projects. My e-mail is jhavandyk@telkomsa.net. I have recently purchased a nother kit car that I dont know what it is. It has simmilar lines than a Ferrari and its on the road. This one is running a BMW 4.0l v8 on the Audi gearbox and it's fast.
