im planning on TTing my 69 firebird. dont worry its already far from origonal.

it has a poncho 400 with a custom tunnel ram on which im planning to put a throttle body from an efi LT1. i also plan to leech the injectors/fuelrails from the LT1 and modify to fit on the tunnel ram. im looking into standalone engine controllers such as electromotive 's tech II or a F.A.S.T. controller. the main goal here is budget. i want to TT for as cheap as possible. im looking for advice on everything except what turbos to buy and where to get them. my main concern are the controllers, and the capabilities of stock GN or TurbCoupe wastegates and blow off valves.

other engine/driveline facts that arent too important
huge mech roller cam (damn near strip only)
TH400 manual valve body
3500 RPM stall (needs to be bigger but it can wait)
wenzler series 2 heads for pontiac
H beam pro-torque rods
2bolt studded block with splayed caps added
ford 9" rear with 4.11 gears
4link rear suspension
8pt rollcage
front disc brakes

The pistons are not mentioned and the compression ratio is very important. Forged pistons and a low, close to 8 to 1, compression ratio.

Consider a maximum boost of 12 psi, that would be a 150hp bump.

With EFI consider a Cartech RRFPR to give a richer mixture under boost.
I have replaced a Bosch sytem and a Calloway with a RRFPR.

Be prepared for lower power under 3k and a surge to 5k.

The CAM is not as important on a Turbo as the size of the exhaust, since with boost the intake is charging for 90 deg, and not the 40 deg. of NA.

Crankcase must be open to external air and a filter installed.
That is the one thing I am working to be able to provide for about $30.

I am working on making a kit to ventilated the crankcase on FI engines after the PCV is removed. You can not have PCV, Postive Crankcase Ventilation, with boost. And you need ventilation with a separator to retain the oil fog of high RPM.
A couple of these in the valve covers, are in my kit.

im thinking vaccum pump or vac-u-pan system (like in top alocohol + top fuel) for crankcase ventalation.

im going to intercool 15 psi worth of boost on my 8.4:1 comp ratio. i might cnc mill a recess in the pistons to bring it down to 8.0:1 if you think it will make a big difference. the jury is still out on a junkyard source for BOVs and Wastegate systems. im looking at thunderbird turbo coupes, buick grand nationals, and chrysler lebarrons.

to determine the power to boost ratio you must know how much power you have currently.
because a naturally aspirated motor has 14.8 PSI (1 bar) of external pressure on it, whatever power you have at N/A will be very nearly EXACTLY DOUBLED by adding 14.8 PSI of boost. so adding 15 will double the power of your motor.
don't forget the added fuel needed to compensate for the added air.

another very important thing to consider is compressor map....make sure it will fit your engine's characteristics

btw IMO go with a single turbo...it will be a much easier and simple setup
