My Dad has a '94 Dodge Ram and for years has always hated the "girly" horn sound that it makes....I think he's even embarrased to use it. :)

So, my Mom has put me up to the task of finding a better horn for it...

Has anyone replaced this with a louder, lower tone horn(s)? If so, can you give me info on what brand, etc. or a link on where I can order it, or what I need to look for in ordering a generic type horn for it.

Thanks!

I can't help with electric horns, but I can help if you are looking at air horns...serious air horns. Both I will talk about are the exact ones used on big rigs.

The ultimate would be the Hadley air horn kit. It comes with all parts for the install...horn(s),on board air, wiring, tubes and fittings. This is an expesive set up, but you will DEFINITELY be heard. I have heard the dual tones and the single. Both are good and loud...I prefer the long single...deep tone. (http://www.hadley-products.com/hadley.html)

The second air horn set up will cost around $100 or less for everything. Basically it is the same as the hadley kit without the compressor for reference. Head to the local truck wrecking yard and get a horn and air tank (test the horn...you will also have an idea how LOUD it will be :) ). Purchase air hose and an air switch then install. I wired the switch into my horn wiring, and mounted the tank (in the bed or under)...run the air hose and you are done. It is a little more complicated than that, but not much. I filled my tank every time I got gas and never ran out of air.

Not sure if you were looking at something that involved...I hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply. Not really looking into something that involved or $$$, but that would be way cool. I'm basically looking for a replacement electric horn or a set, such as what you'd find a JC Whitney. But one that someone can tell me has a deeper tone to it.

Thanks again,
