I have a 1991 Riviera with 89000 miles. It ran icredibly well. Then out of the blue it stalled. It was towed to a shop who told the harness had melted. The harness was replaced but it stalled again. They traced it to the fuel pump saying there was a lead which looked burned. stalled again. They traced it to the crank sensor, it stalled again, then replaced the ecm, we drove about 100 miles and guess what it stalled again. i then had another shop they replaced ignition module and wires stalled again. It ran for 45 minutes and then it shakes sputters and stalls.
I love the car engine and trans are solid any help would be appreciated.

I also sent it to a electronic specialty shop and they can't find the problem.

I request that this message be read by any and all Buick powered owners experiencing intermittent stalling. In the late eighties and early nineties, these vehicles all had problems with airflow meters. Their sensitivity to vibration confused the ECM's in these vehicles, resulting in stalling, dying, difficult starting, surging and rough idling. Reading your messages shows me that many of the problems during this decade and a half have been forgotten. Please allow me to refresh some memories. Two methods of diagnosis were used on these vehicle's sensors. One was the 'scope, which is the only real way to examine the waveforms these and other sensors generate. The resulting examination typically guarantees that even if a problem still existed, the replaced sensor was replaced for good reason. It was a test that the customer could understand, since he saw it for himself. It also proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that the tech knew what he was doing, and it renewed a trust. This method of testing required expensive test equipment, which I purchased, and still own. I have a personal pride in finding answers to difficult questions, regardless of how long it takes to get them. One other test that could be used with 99% accuracy was to tap the air flow meter. If the engine stumbled, the sensor was replaced, typically solving the problem. Those of you experiencing similar symptoms might try the same thing, possibly saving a service call and charges. i think the problem was resolved. The dealer told me the crank sensor was not properly installed that it needed to be aligned when it was installed. So hopefully this resolved this problem

I too am having the same problems, I replaced fuel filter, air filter, throttle position sensor, cam magnet, mass air flow sensor, now my mechanic says the ecm is bad because he could interupt the idle by tapping on the ecm while it was running, I witnessed this and am about to replace the ecm... Is there anything else I could be doing????
