What was the GTR R34 made for???2of9 11-10-2003, 09:56 PM ok, im not sayin the Skyline is bad, love the Skyline GTR R34... but do u guys kno why the Skyline R34 was made for?? i mean like for racing, drag, drift and those other racing things...well...jus looking mainly at the GTR R34, i was wondering if it was a luxury sports, sports or what ever it goes in? well...these may b stupid questions, but help my brain get smarter at Skylines...thanks Silver_GTR34 VQuick 11-11-2003, 09:20 AM In general, Skylines are a big family of sport luxury sedans and coupes. The GT-R is only the high performance variant. Sort of like how BMW has the lower level 3-series models, then an M3. The GT-R appears to be intended as more of a GT or Grand Tourer car, like the Supra. It had some luxury, but also a lot of performance. The recent GT-Rs have been too heavy to be a 'sports car,' like say, the FD3S RX-7. The Fairlady Z and Silvia had that role taken care of. NSX-R-SSJ20K 11-12-2003, 07:34 AM alot of people used the original R32 GTR in racing series and they thrashed all the big over budgetted Ford and Chevy Teams in Aus and stuff Supra's etc in Japan. So thats mainly why you only see RWD R34s racing in JGTC etc. ZZII 11-13-2003, 10:48 AM If ur talking performance wise, the R34 (GT-R) is an all around car. The AWD is great for the track and strip. The twin Turbos are also great for both. The RB26 is also one of the best engines their is. The has a great top end speed, and can get there pretty quick. The Skyline R34 has outperformed all of it's competitors in every form of competition. (stock normal sports cars. No Supercars like Saleen S7 and the CC8) sami 11-14-2003, 08:13 PM It's following the footsteps of R32 GT-R which was developed to race in Group A. If you do a search you will find a lengthy post about the history of the legendary Gibson R32 GT-R race cars. tazdev 11-14-2003, 11:07 PM heres the link sami mentioned http://www.overflow.250x.com/_framed/250x/overflow/Obakemono%20Downunder.html nacho_nissan 11-17-2003, 08:58 PM What if the Skyline was never made?? raysoh8 11-18-2003, 02:39 AM then i wouldnt be here. then porche drivers would continue thinking how superior their cars are. then a large part of history would be gone. then nissan would not be so famous. i dont think the jgtc would be invented. friday86 12-06-2003, 12:58 AM i see now...they should make a Exotice Sport Skyline?? (ZZII??) well...jus in my dreams tho..lol. thanks for replying back too..thanks ghetto7o2azn 12-07-2003, 02:17 AM basically the skyline gt-r is good for all of those things exept for drifting... if ur gonna drift get the gt-s SUPRAPOWR 12-09-2003, 06:16 AM ZZII you better get your facts right dude, I have a lot of respect for GTR's but as you said "the skyline GTR R34 has out performrd all of its competitors in every form of competition" I DON'T think so, it hasn't out performed the legendary 2JZ GTE SUPRA specially in Japan and the US. Look up the stats in Japan and the import category in the US and tell me who is kicking ass... SUPRA obviously. klohiq 12-09-2003, 05:14 PM The GTR can drift too...it's one of the few AWDs that do it pretty well...it's also one of the only AWS cars that can drift...maybe not as well as a trueno, but that's a weight issue mostly. And in most cases the GTR has a fairly high rear bias...until it starts slipping...and even then most of the power is still at the rear wheels... ghetto7o2azn 12-10-2003, 11:36 PM i think u misread the question... he asked what is it "made" for... and the skyline was definitly not meant for drifting and the only one that does it well is the gts-t which is rwd... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
