Important: Sanding Question

I hear so many times of you guys talking about 1500grit up to 2000 grit sanding paper. :eek7:

Where I live, I can't get any higher than 1200grit wet & dry sanding paper. :banghead: What do you guys mean? :dunno: Do u actually get a finer sanding paper than 1200??? :screwy: If this is the case then I'm in trouble because I will then not be able to sand my models down as smooth as you guys :(

Any advice on this would be GREAT!! :thumbsup:

i have exactly the same problem, but i havent bothered looking because i am no where near spraying my current projects.

I had the same problem here, but, what it is is that the finer grades aren't actually sand paper, they are polishing cloths, some wood working stores sell these and they are a damn sight cheaper than the cloths in modelling shops!! If you search for micromesh you should get some hits, I have polishing cloths ranging from, 3000 to 12000!

I normally only use up to 8000 and then switch to Tamiya Rubbing compound, Jesus's own polishing compound!!! Hope this helps

1200 Would be fine if you use it with water and sand gently so you dont "scratch" the surface.
Follow it up with a few primer coats and it will be fine.
If you need to sand finish coats you will need a higher grit as the 1200 would be to rough
