I got a 96 neon sport coupe and was wonderin if it would be possible to swap in a srt-4 motor. I wanna do it because ive never heard of anyone doing it plus it would be different. Anywase i know id need to change the whole wiring harness and shit but i just need to know if its possible to do. If so would anyone happen to know where i could get the motor at. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Matt

anything is possible. you just gotta be sure what your doing. i found a website a while ago where they put a 2.4 turbo motor in a neon, which is the same as the srt-4 motor.i will try to find it and pass it on

I've heard that the SRT-4 engine will fit under the 1st generation neon hood, but you'd have to do some mods to get the motor mounts set up right.

a first gen eclipse motor will go into it,go turbo 4g63 and have gobs
of horse power. how many turbo neons do you see running the roads?

www.neons.org there are plenty of 2.4 swaps on there, some nasty n/a, some spraying, some turbo'd, and some turbo'd and spraying. The srt4 engine wouldn't work in a first gen, thier wiring systems run completely different not to mention the way the ecu's work, and finally it doesn't fit in a 1st gen neon.

not as many, very true. I have seen a couple, however. But not many.

I'm with Diablo: it won't work, at least not easily or practically. You might as well take an older 2.4L and turbo the sucker.

There are G1 turbo Neons out there (I have a friend with a very quick, fast SOHC turbo), but they certainly aren't thick on the ground. Hell, there are probably ten times as many turbo'd Civics and they aren't all that common.

well, since there are so few turbod G1 neons, I'd have to go w/ that and be different!

to all of you that doubt the swap you're wrong. it isn't that bad. i'm starting the project. goto neons.org and it tells you what you need to know. modern performance sells the motor mount adapter you need for only 70 dollars. the wiring out of a first gen will work.

so if its an old thread its still an interesting topic, and anyposting is better than no posting :grinyes:

yes its been done, but its gonna require alot of one off fabrication with mounts and what not... If you are to do it; it would take a good chunk of money.... but i say go for it if you really want to and i wish you luck

here my understanding, don't the newer neons share the same 2.0 as the old 1st gen neons? The srt4 is basically a modern day neon with a beefed up 2.4 thats boosted. to me it seems logical that the srt4 motor should just drop right in. i'm sure this topic has been talked about before if not been accomplished on a 1st gen neon.

Heres the thing though, why go through the trouble of swapping in that 2.4? check out hahns racecraft they are very big into neons and they make turbo setups that are pretty nasty.
