Does anyone know anything about these motors or possibly a sight about these motors? Im sure most of you have talked about this before, but im interested. I cant seem to find any info on them( h/p,tq, ect....) Thanks in advance.

b18c4. hmm, is that a b18c1 (gsr) engine with plastic explosives in it? i mean do they use C4 as the catalyst instead of gasoline? that sounds quite interesting. :useless:

Anyway what is the specific engine you are talking about, the car it comes from i mean. There is no b18c4.. at least not to my limited knowledge. There is a b18c-b18c1-b18c5-b18c6/7. If you go to http://crxsi.com/resources/classified/ads/13209.htm it will explain what engines are from what cars I found it to be pretty helpful and accurate... so far anyway.

I'm no expert of JDM products... and by what Jeff C. was saying its not even JDM its european. Thats why in my post I said "I" never heard of it based on the info. i have encountered...You must understand that not everyone in here asks the most intelligent ?'s and I have seen people qoute wrong engine #'s before. Sorry for the misinterpretation so chill...

Heres what i know about the B18C4
1. It exists because i have one!
2. As far as i know its the same as the B18C on the Integra type R but it has not been hand finished resulting in slightly less power
3. BHP is 169, torque is about 150, its a 1797cc engine, 4 inline cylinders, double overhead cam, 16v fuel is injected via a injector for each piston
4. According to one source the intake manifold is also slightly differenent to integra type R block, there are inlet pipes for each piston, one only opening when revs reach a certain point, apparently this is unique to other 16v DOHC VTEC engines - though i dont have any idea if thats right or not!
5. This engine is in my 1997 honda civic VTi which is a 5 door hatchback with the rover 400 body - this model was only made for one year to celebrate the union of honda and rover and only 2000 where made and where made and sold in the UK - hence why little is known about
6. VTEC kicks in about 5700rpm, and the car redlines at 8400rpm
7. 0 - 60, top speed etc depends on gearbox, wheel size, car weight etc... for the civic 1.8VTi 0-60 is about 8 seconds, hondas recommended top speed for the car is 139mph (@7040rpm) at 8000rpm top speed is approx 150 mph based on gearing
1st gear redline 45mph
2nd gear redline 78mph
3rd gear redline 110mph

Just curious though, the 5dr Rover body is actualy quite differnt to the Honda, for example they use McPherson Strut front suspension instead of Hondas Double wishbone, and the 3dr versions use a beam rear axle.
The coupe however (Rover TomCat/220 Turbo, based on the US built Civic Coupe) uses the Honda double wish bone set up at the back, but McPherson struts at the front.

EDIT I had a look at the website, that 5door body is actualy a Honda one. It was sold in Japan badged as the Civic Concerto :)
So it's basicly a Japanese spec body, fitted with UK spec interior, the B18c engine (something it never got in Japan) bigger brakes, and I hope tuned suspension.
There was however a 5dr Rover only design, known as the Rover 200 that only used the Honda floor pan, but used the Rover designed McPherson and beam axle suspension.
The engine sounds like a Japanese or US spec B18c1 which has been detuned to some extent, possible to meet UK emissions requirements, or to run safely on UK fuel grades.
It actualy shares little with the Type R motor, which uses a completely differnt cylinder head among other things. However, there is enough similarity between the blocks that a Type R engine will fit in your car with only a small amout of work, including an ECU swap.
If you want to play around with your engine, then its possible simply fitting an ECU from a Japanese spec engine will give small boost in power through more timing advance.
When Honda sold the Japanese spec SiR Civic (EF9) in Europe in similar limited numbers (badged as the VTi (EE9) they used the japanese spec engine, but made small changes to the ECU, and rated hp went from 157hp to 150hp.
Iv heard from people in Europe with these cars that fitting a Japanese spec ECU returns the engine to a full 157-160hp.
The other possiblity is there is no differnce between your engine and a Japanese spec engine, only the method used to measure the hp was slightly differnt. The Japanese engine is rated at 180ps (about 175hp) with all accesories fitted, but its unknown what exhaust and intake were used when it was tested.
Its possible that when fitted with the cars exhaust and intake, the power drops to 169hp, and thats the figure used by Honda UK when marketing and selling the vehicle.

thanks man thats usefull! the body of my 1997 5door VTi is basically the same as used on the Rover 400, but as far as i know the rest is all honda - i dont know to much about it, only what i could gather from scraps on the web and people i have spoke to

front - double wishbones, coil springs, anti-roll bar
back - double wishbones, coil springs, anti-roll bar
honda describe the shocks as "sport" shocks
its not the same air intake as the type r, i have added a K&N air filter which has made the engine sound much deeper and louder and given a noticable increase in power, am yet to upgrade the exhaust
according to one website for £150 you can convert it to the integra type r engine by swapping to parts of the engine though i cant remember which, i think the main differance is the polished ports
interesting to know it was sold in japan as the concerto!
