These are some of the best photos I've seen on the net in quite some time. Apparently they come from this book:

http://www.schlegelmilch.com/books-art-index-page/default.htm#BMW

Photography Rainer W. Schlegelmilch, Text Hartmut Lehbrink
460 pp., ca. 600 ill., HC, cloth-bound, jacket, format 27x31,2 cm, trilingual GB/D/F, ISBN 3-8290-0657-8, EUR 29,00

Used to be on the Amazon.com website, but no more. It's special order on the UK Amazon site, it seems. I got mine locally a couple years back for about $40 USD. Damn fine book, with a good pictorial overview of BMW's products from 1898-1999. The McLaren section is only 10 pages (out of about 460 total), with 3 or so pics spreading across more than one page (that first engine shot I posted actually shows only 2/3rds of the whole picture). Not much in-depth text, but it's all printed in English, German, and French.

<-- Must have a copy of this book :D

Enjoy the pics (scanned courtesy of Guibo on SC.net) - and I apologize for the slow host, but these shots are worth it.

Actually the one you posted in that other thread is not one of those, but should be the same car from the same photo shoot:

Figured I'd toss it in here to keep everyone on the same page.

oh yeah. my bad, thanks for correcting me peloton

btw, it is unlikely thats the same car. in the pix peloton posted of the scans from sc.net the car has the big older style mirrors from the corrado (?) and in the pic i posted in another thread that peloton reposted the car has the later xj220 style mirrors. :grinno:

No way man - do I need to post the mirror pictures again...

The 'XJ220/Esprit/Citroen CX' mirrors had a different base and they are shaped differently with a ribbed black section where the mirror glass mounts. I would put my life savings on all those pictures being of the exact same car.

Also, the 'XJ220/Esprit/Citroen CX' mirrors are the "old style" that was seen on just the first few cars and prototypes. 'XP4' is one of the few cars left that I have seen which still wears them.

The 'Corrado' mirrors are the ones that ended up on 90% of the production cars and should be referred to as the "new style" or final production mirrors (not counting cars fitted with the A-Pillar mirror from the BMW Z1).

EDIT: I dug up the side view photo on the 'XJ220/Esprit/Citroen CX' mirrors - see the difference?

"Take your word for it..." :screwy:

The evidence is right there buddy - the base is totally different and the ribbing is clearly not there on the silver F1's mirror in that side view shot with the car closed up.

I swear, the next time I see a McLaren F1 or a Jaguar XJ220 I'm going to take 30 pictures just of the mirrors and snail mail them to you in 8x10 glossy format. :D
