Is it possible to remover roof rack on 2004 4Runner?pwanghk 11-02-2003, 10:02 AM Greetings: Is it possible to remove the roof rack (either completely or partially) on a 2004 4Runner v6 4x4 sport ed? If so, where can I find an instruction and will it risk to have a roof leak later on? Advance thanks for your time and help. jnewbury2280 09-02-2004, 12:59 PM I was wondering the same thing. I was actually at the toyota dealer to day and was asking them how to take them off. They said the covers "pop" off and there are 2 bolts on each side. I haven't tried this yet but it seems to be easier said that done with out casuing any damage to you rack. As for if there will be leaks etc. I would think so since th bolts go into the body. You can take of the rails I belive but what would be the point if you have to leave the four corners with the rubber seals? Not much help I know but thats all I know. ftiliws 03-21-2005, 02:45 PM don't know about the '04 in particular, but i removed the roof rack (left the side rails on) on my '99 3 years ago and i have had no problems with leaks. it's a smart move if you don't use it...i get 2-3 more mpg with it off. scott78945 03-21-2005, 06:05 PM 2-3 mpg? Are you serious? You don't have a wind sail on your roof, they are just bars that go across. I would suggest you check your math on that one. ftiliws 03-21-2005, 08:56 PM i got 19 mpg hwy before i took them off and i now get 21-22 mpg. unless my elementary school mathematics are failing me, i'm saving 2-3 mpg. scott78945 03-21-2005, 10:19 PM I just don't see how or why your MPG's would go up that much, but if you say so. ahoward13 01-10-2006, 03:47 PM I just don't see how or why your MPG's would go up that much, but if you say so. I suggest you just take it off and see if your MPG gets better. And hey, if it doesn't then what have you lost but time.-Hummm......Just stick it back on. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
